I have a 96 Grand Caravan 3.0 and I can drive it forward about 20 yards and it goes into neutral. I have reverse with no side effects. Once I park it and leave it sir for a minute I can put back in drive and go another 20 yards before it will go back into neutral. It is not an overdrive tranny. I have heard that it may as simple as a ground or something related to that effect. Is this true could my problem be as simple as a ground or could it be a module or solenoid or something? Surely it could not be the tranny, it has never given any problem no slipping or anything, just one day going about 45mph it decided to act like it was in neatral or something, but like I said I can still drive it at 5 miles an hour with no problem or at a hire speed for about 20 yards. Any suggestions please let me know!

Hey Murph, I don't have a solution (Actually I'm seeking a solution to the same problem) but I can fill in what I've learned so that hopefully someone can sudjest something more precise.

I have a 95 Voyager Sport, Electronic Trans with overdrive. This tranny has been rebuilt by a tranny specialist. They're very strong on Tranny mechanics but not so hot on the new electronics. (more about this later).

The simptom will appear after I've played with the wireing harness to the tranny to repair the protection around it or when I flushed the rad and radiator fluid soaked the wiring harness, near the plugs at the tranny end. The simptom has reappeared lately after a major downpour or high humidity (like this morning's melting snow).

I've attempted to dry it out to get going but it refuses to co-operate until the next day when all is fine (as if there was never a problem).

What I have been able to deturmine is that the tranny will go into 1st gear when I select Drive. As I accelerate, the tranny goes to 2nd gear but ends up in neutral instead. From this point on, I have no forward gears at all until I shut down the engin, restart it and I have 1st gear only again.

The tranny experts have checked out the tranny and say that's not the problem. They have swapped out the solinoid pack so that's not it either. They have hooked up their computor to the tranny computor but the computor reports no problems. (And of course, the simptoms refuse to present themselves to the specialists)

This fault is so nasty because the experts that hold the warrenty can't help me. Replacing the harness and maybe the computor with new is out of the question, with a used is going to be an awful lot of work and if knowone has experience with this, it looks like I'll have to take it to the Dealership to figure it out.

There' a thread here entitled "EveryOne with Transmission problems... A Chrysler Secret...! Read This...! (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=196775&highlight=Transmission)". It does mention an electrical problem that may be helpful to you.

However, these transmissions can go at any time without warning. My Caravan developed similar symptoms and was completely dead within a week.

I've got it apart right now and have found lots of metal in the pan due to a blown planetary assembly. This also clogged the valvebody and govenor and caused these shifting problems before it completely went.

Good luck guys, hopefully you can fix your problems with only electrical repairs.
