Intake???

Intake: is it true that all intakes are prity much the same, want to get an intake for my 'teg, but dont know what i should buy. Any ideals, i was gona get this Tech(something a ma'juggy) intake, from a friend for bout 50bux. :p

Question bout intake... i was also told that this brand take in alot of the hot air from the engien. i supose this is bad, hot air is thinner?? right?? :confused: :confused: but, i still want an intake could get an aem intake for $160+... but thats more than double what i want to spend.

its not the brand that takes in hot air, its where the filter is placed. If you are getting a short ram intake, no matter what brand it is it will take in hot air because it is taking in air from the engine bay. If you dont want to take in hot air, then get the cold air intake. It takes air from behind the turn signal. You will have to do more work to install the cold air intake, but it will be worth it. And yes, hot air contains less oxygen per volume so a cold air intake is better. It also depends on the material the tube is made out of, if you get a good brand like AEM, it will be ceramic coated to block the heat from the engine bay. Plastic blocks heat good too, but it looks like sh*t.

get the aem cai. you'll be better off

If you have the chance to get a AEM CAI for that cheap then go for it!!:finger:

I would go for the AEM.

But if yer cheap, I wouldn't see a big problem with a lesser brand's CAI.

So long as the filter is a K&N and the pipe isn't gonna rust on you, then it should perform just about equally. Provided the pipe diameter is the same, and the inside surface isn't totally crap.

$50 bux tho? You gotta wonder why your friend is selling it (for so cheap too).

Wanna save money? at least get a Ractive cold air intake.
Their quality may not be as good, but the performance should be similar, and they're the more reputable of the cheaper brands.

You don't get as much from a short ram, But if budget is a factor...

about the $50 dollar intake. its supose to me 70+ but because we know the owner he's gona sell it to me wholesale i guess. and ya its a short ram intake. kewl, not i know the difference thankx everyone. i was wondering why there was a long intake that extends all the way down to the turn signal and there was also the short one in the engine bay.

humm Brianna where can i get that AEM for 80bux??? sounds reasonable its just a little upgrade not looking for anything extream. Gona give my 'teg to my little sis when she graduats mid this year..!!!!

u could always make a "Custom" one for real cheap PVC pipe and a air filter

could anyone tell me what the improvements are for a 2000GSR with just the AEM intake everything else is stock? I've just received the intake yesterday and cant wait to get it installed^^ but just curious. thanks.

eahhhh...on its own, maybe a 3 hp increase give or take.
Your fuel consumption should improve noticeably too.

I know it doesn't sound like much, but it should still be fairly noticeable.

But it sure is incentive to complete the setup with headers & exhaust to get the full 5 or 6 hp potential out of it isn't it?

question...how hard is it to install the intake if i decided to do it myself?

i have a 2000 gsr,the aem intake is great, i love mine, and I had a cheapy intake before too and the difference was very noticeable. Installation wasn't too difficult, it involves removing the front bumper to remove the stock resonator which is kinda tricky but not hard at all

ps. remember when you buy an exhaust that you have to buy 94-99 ls piping becusase your piping is different from a 99 gsr.
