Say it isn't so! (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=LM03)

The sale may not be a joke ... but the price MUST be!

QV500 are suggesting maximum of 1 million GBP for an LM, which equates to $1,935,000 ... he's asking $3,900,000!!!

Murray,

I tried to put it in my cart to figure out the shipping costs, but it wouldn't work. :)

Wow - that's depressing.

I wonder what the circumstances are as I recall Mr Selldorff stating here before that he wouldn't sell the LM.

In fact, he said that right here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1298385&postcount=31).

For example, I bought the LM because it was available and I wanted it, thinking it might be the only opportunity I would ever have to own an original LM. I paid a HUGE premium over my other F1's. Since I will NEVER sell it, what is it worth? No way to answer that question. Although there are more F1 road cars around, there are still too few that come up for sale to establish a reliable market price.

I hope things are ok with him. :) Maybe he's just tired of us hounding him about it, but maybe I shouldn't be joking.

Look on the bright side. Anyone buying that car isn't going to wreck it.

Just hope that it doesn't disappear into obscurity in someone's private collection.

It sad really....I thought mr.Selldorff was one of those guys who just loved the car so much it was completely out of the question having it sold!?
That he would sell his house before he let anything happen to his LM...
It's sad indeed because if this is true, the chance of some all too rich moron buying it just for having it in an all too large car collection already, just standing there, never put to use.....I love the LM003 just because it was a car that got used and after all thats what it's made for!

I wonder if this sale has something to do with the rumored fact that McLaren arent going to put any priority in these cars any more, and service and user parts may become difficult to obtain without any trouble?
The price is however in a range not many would consider, but then again if you have put a car like this for sale, some of the "magic" just dissapears.
It would be interesting to know why he is even considering this as I would NEVER done this for any kind of ammount....(well $50000000) maybe:-)

Wow, that is quite surprising. And if it is sold, then my chances of seeing an LM in person, much less a road car, are going to get even slimmer.

It maybe that this price has been put up to deter "wine tasters". It may go for considerably less.

It is truly a sad day if Mr. Selldorff has placed the car on the market. I would never have been able to see the car in person, but it sure was nice to have an owner like him who was willing to share he experience with those people who came in contact with him. I have to agree with murraydeschot that I hope that the car does not vanish into obscurity into some place like Burnei. It was nice to view the photos of the vehicle at different settings taken by various people. People like Mr. Selldorff are very gracious for sharing their experience with others, and I would hope that he hangs on to it

The link is down. That either means there's been too many hits on the site, or the page was pulled.

Honestly, it was a bad bad attempt at a joke. Not at you guys or the general public... but just a stab at humor. For Christ's sake, it was on our Used Parts section..........

Turner Motorsport does not sell cars, let alone high-end exotics. And if we did, it would be done in a much different way.

Case closed.

Thanks for clearing things up Drew. I was certainly skeptical and am glad to hear that its not really true.

It's a shame that a joke like that reached so far. It doesn't seem to take this group long to latch on to the latest piece of McLaren news and run with it, which is certainly one of our strengths, but in this case it turns out to be a real weakness.

Not so fast. Regardless of the section the ad was posted, the text specifically said, "this is not a joke". I fail to see how that ad can be construed as humorous in any manner and how anyone would know it was fake.

Drew, why would a decent guy like yourself come up wuth a lame joke like this??

You really got me worried there as mr.Selldorff seemed to be a real motor nut and really loved the car.

Glad to know that a person who actually uses the car will have it!

Well it's really water under the bridge at this point. I thought the way that it was listed was a little strange, but not enough to discount it outright. I don't think anyone is saying you were dumb for posting it - I suspect there was just a little frustration coming through that the joke traveled further than it was intended to.

Drew was not the source on this. Someone else within Turner Motorsports was the one that put it up. I suspect that person will be rightfully scolded.

In fact, given this is really a dead issue, I'm going to make the executive decision to close this thread up.
