Putting up Christmas lights. My girlfriend came up today and said the old "Hey hunny, why don't WE put up some christmas lights. I of course said hell no, but she used her "womanly persuasions" to talk me into it. Well I soon began to realize that the US putting up christmas lights quickly turned into me un-tangleing, stringing up, and adjusting lights while she sat there on her ass and not doing anything but criticizing everything I had just took a few hours to do. Just seems like a pain in the ass to spend hours putting up christmas lights that no one is really going to appreciate (I live on a dead end street), only to run my electric bill up and have the joy of taking the lights down and packing them up for next year. Am I alone on this? I'm not "Scrooge" or anything, but I was kind of thinking about it here at work and thought I'd make a post about it.

Haha that is how a lot of stuff goes for me too, US means ME doing all the work and her watching and criticizing it.

My mum put a light array in my window,
I feel like kramer with the kenny rogers sign outside my window. It lights up my whole room.

My father (who was sick of putting up lights) and my mother (who loved having lights up) came up with a compromise. We got 3 or 4 of those light up Santas and snowmen and reindeer that you stake into your front yard. They look good, and take about 5 minutes to set up/disassemble.

The only problem is the possibility of neighborhood hooligans (like me) to go and smash them. However, the one thing that keeps away decoration smashers like myself is an open window, so my bedroom blinds stay open while the decorations are up :)

Monday night.

Picked gf up from hers.
Drove to the tree place.
Debated for half an hour over which tree to get.
Carried her tree back to my car.
Put the passenger seat down, stuff tree in, pins all over the place.
Drive to hers.
Remove tree from car.
Clean up car interior with mini-vac.
Carry tree inside.
Trim lower branches.
Spend an hour trying to get tree in cheapo stand.

The end.

Lesson? Never ever tell your girlfriend that you'll help her get a tree.

And if you don't tell her what? Like she won't call you and make you help her anyway. :p

It doesn't bother me to do Christmas decorations. It actually puts me in the spirit of the holidays. I hung some garland and a wreath outside my apartment.

Beat the rush, and all the work. Do like a lot of my neighbors and leave the lights up year-round.

Since I was the one always putting up the lights I decided to just leave them on last year ( the fact that i slid off the roof didnt help much either :p ) When It comes to the tree, I try to stay as far away from it as I can in my house, we always end up fighting when "we" put up the tree, I do love to go help my grandparents decorate their tree though, I dunno theres just something about it that relaxes me. I cant wait until I can decorate a tree with my g/f some day

While we're on the topic, I really hate buying presents for people. Who's gay stupid idea was it that you have to buy shit for them? I don't want anything for christmas, so why should I give other people shit that they probably won't want either?

Well, my holiday spirit just when down the shitter. (j/k) Yeah, I know what you mean. Not only is there nothing I want for Christmas, but I have a lot of people I have to buy for between family and friends, easily spending around $500. Thank God I don't have a GF to buy for this year. :icon16:

I totally agree with you. We don't put up christmas lights because its stupid. I don't see the point in freezing our asses off to string up some ugly lights, send our electric bill sky just so maybe one or two people will either say "oh look lights" or "man they did a shitty job" lol.

We do a put put a fake tree and I change a few things in the house, like the tableclotha nd center piece, etc but otherwise thats the only "festive" stuff we do because its pointless and Christmas wasn't started for freaking lights and santa anyway.

The only group worse than women for saying "we" but meaning "you" is the military. I can't count the number of times an officer or a chief (very senior Enlisted Navy) has used that line, then proceeds to get coffee, smoke cigarettes, and "supervise." What can I say, it's good to be the Chief!
