heating problems

I have a 96 S-10 Blazer LT. I just bought it this past May. They did a coolant flush on it and some other stuff before I picked it up. A few months ago when the weather started to get cooler and I needed some heat, it didn't get to hot. I checked the coolant level and it was down some. I wasn't sure when the thermostat what changed last so I replaced it and filled it back up with coolant. I also put on a new radiator cap and overflow bottle cap. Since I done this stuff the heat has gotten better but it's just enough heat to keep me warm when the outside temp is in the low 40's but that's with the blower on high the whole time while I'm driving. I checked the heater core hoses and they are both hot when the engine is hot. I thought that their might still be some air in the system because sometimes I can still hear a girgeling noise coming from the dash. When I first got the blazer it was really making the nosie but now I can hardly hear it.

Also I plan on checking the coolant level in the morning to make sure it's still full. Haven't checked it in a while..

Do you think their is still air in the system or could it be the heater core or something else?

I would kinda think so. It's possible that your heater core is partly blocked too, but most likely air in there.

Did you put a winter or summer thermostat in there.

my Blazer had 3 choices, and I picked the middle 1 for where I live, but I'll be cold on my holiday next month

I just had the same problem. Just disconnect the hoses at the heater core and run water backwards through it. My heats blowing nice and hot now. I just attached a short hose to the right side (standing in front of the truck looking under the hood) and ran some water through it. Made sure it was filled up before I put the hoses back on.

When the engine is completely warmed up and running for 30 minutes or so, where is the temp gauge reading on the dash?

1/4, 1/2 etc....

I finally checked the coolant level today. It's still full...


They only had 2 thermostats at my local parts store. A 192 or 195 degree but I forget which one I put in..

BlazerLT..The temp gauge reads between 1/4 and 1/2 after warmed up. Sometimes it will go up close to 210 and then go back down closer to 1/4. A friend of mine has a 97 blazer and his is the same way..

I think there is still some air in the heater core so I'm going to try what NakeDZX did and hopefully I will have heat too..

Yea, you temp seems normal.

The climbing to 210 then droppng is just the engine popping open the thermostat.

You need to do a reverse flush.
