I started this kit, put the body kit together, and it doesn't really fit very well :( Needed to trim a little of the front bumper, it barely fits now, still got a gap. The side skirts dont fit at all! Trimmed a lot of the car body to make it fit in, but now the door line is wrong.

Is there any Aoshima/Fujimi kit with pieces that actually fit?!

Sounds like a blast! :(
Good luck with that. FWIW, my MR2 fit together fine, and it's from Fujimi. :)

Actually, that much of a gap is common in almost all manufacturers, Fujimi, Aoshima and Hasegawa. Only Tamiya, which fully employs CAD/CAM engineering, can make a product with such an incredible tight tolerance. Recent Revell/Monogram kits are improved, but if you put together any of AMT, you'll rate Aoshima very good in comparison.
I have the same model, and I thought the fit of the side skirt was very good. I bought it to make the R-spec, but something grew on me as I looked at the box of the Ver.R, so I decided to make one straight out of the box, and hope Aoshima to release the R-Spec.
Working on many FDs at the same time...
Bathurst R, A-spec, Ver.R, and R-Spec

ya... maybe that's why Tamiya don't make any special edition kits... they know it'll be a **** to make it fit well, and don't want to mess up their good quality rep.
Try to use some tooth paste putty to cover up the gaps, and recarve them in with a razor later on.

Putty work is a little beyond my ability :p I'll leave it like that, got it primered and working on the floor plan and interior right now. Everything else fit well, I'm sure the original Aoshima RX-7 kit is top notch, it's just the optional body kit that got little problem for me.
I'm thinking of painting it dark metallic gray instead of blue. Would that be TS-42 Light Gun Metal? Any one got any cars in dark metallic gray?

Light gun metal would look pretty nice. The wheels on my R32 are that colour

That wheel looks really good!! I really need to find some TS-42.. Went to the local shop and they didn't have it, it's the only color they don't have! So I got some TS-38 Gun Metal, its darker, but I think it looks pretty good.

hiro

No there's no popup headlight parts.. I don't think they made any separate upgrade for that either.

They do have a resin kit for FD pop up headlights, but the kit costs more then the model kit itself, so I was just going to built it out of putty.
No progress on models latelly, I've been too busy with work. Dam boss keeps changing designs on me last min.

jay- yes Legends. Was it you who bought all my TS-42? :D
pkw- I haven't seen that resin kit, who made it? Is it for Tamiya kit?
Got the interior done today, this time I put semi-gloss coat on the dash.

So the "up" lights just sit on top of the molded-in "down" lights? Man, you could do that yourself, no sweat!

I think you're supposed to cut out the closed lights on the hood...? pkw- those bumper and spoilers are the same as those in the kit you have?

Recently, I bought Tamiya's FC from auction, while paying a hefty amount of mark up. Anyway, the kit includes the headlight bracket, which is separate from the cover. I'm gonna resin cast the parts and trim a bit, so that it can fit the FD. What amazed me was that a complete engine detail, pop up headlights and sliding roof were all included in only 1000 yen model kit back then.

ya, you have to cut out the pop up headlight lids, as the resin kit sink into the body a bit to creat that built in look rather then just a stick on.
The bumpers and spoilers that come with the resin kit is for the yellow FD (eairly version) appeared in the eairlier chapters of Initial D.. the one shown in my sig is the A-Spec FD (came out at 1999 i believe) which appears in the later chapters of Initial D.
I thought about using the pop up headlight parts from my other models too (my Sileighty as well as FC by fujimi comes with pop up headlights), but the FD pop up headlights are all painted yellow and molded into the front black covers, unlike older style pop up headlights which only the covers are body colored, that's why i'm having such trouble deciding if i want to get that resin kit or not.. but it's so dam expensive.

I actually overflooded the hood, so the panel lines of the headlights and hood are not good :p oh yeh that's cos I was concentrating on *shiny* *shiny* spray finish so I don't have to use clear coat... :hehehe:
