Stange starting problem

Well this one has got me, took my son to the bus this morning. No problem starting or running on my 1999 C.V.P.I. came back home, about an hour later was going to the bank. Now I get start up and then the car stalls, crank again starts then stalls. Tried cranking and leaving the starter engaged, the car starts then stalls and keeps cranking. No check engine light no error codes in memory. I'm thinking crankcase position sensor, or clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, or bad ignition switch. Anybody come accross a similar problem? Let me know. Thanks.

If you can't start it at all and it just cranks, you may have set off the fuel pump disengagment switch. (I think that's the name; if it's not it should be)

Look in your trunk on the left hand side. A little box should be there. This box shuts off fuel flow if you have an accident, or if you tap it with your screwdriver too hard. Reset it by pressing the red button down.

If the red button is already down, this is not the problem.

Well yes thats the first thing I tried. Now for the testing procedure and the unusuall answer. Fortunately I have a parted out CVPI for any parts needed. Next I have about 5 other 4.6l cars to try out my tests. After the fuel switch was jumped out, the same was occuring. So I removed the jumper, and the car would not start at all. So it's not a fuel related problem. I disconnected the crankcase position sensor same result. Disconnected the CPS on another car, car started ok, didn't run for too long didn't know what it would effect. Now here is where a bit of luck kicked in, I fiqured that after all this cranking it might be flooded, so I put the gas to the floor, and the car started, but as sson as I took my foot off the gas, it stalled. Next I tried half throtle, car starts runs, but as soon as I take foot off gas, stalls. Now I am thinking, maybe the TPS is bad, so I change it out, same problem. Then it occurs to me that at idle it stalls maybe the AIC is bad change that, car starts and runs fine, just at a very high idel. Turns out that ones bad too. So now I am off to the auto parts store for aN AIC.

You need to replace your idle air control valve (IAC). It is an easy to change part....check your Haynes or Ford service manual.
