My quote that I got

I went to a local audio store which had a lot of JL and Rockford and Lighting Audio stuff. They guy told me that Rockford makes the Lighting Audio (Bolt amps incl) equipment. I told him that I want about 2 12"s in my trunk, and Im not going to be replacing the headunit on the car, all I want is bass. He told me that Lighting Audio was good and a lot of starters (like me) buy them because they hit hard and they are just overall good subs for the kind of music I listen to (rap). He showed me these 2 12" single-coil Lighting Audio subs that have 200w peak each. Showed me a Lighting Audio 300.2w amp, which is 150x2 channels, that should be plenty to drive the two subs. Also the double Q-Logic box. Everything (2 subs, amp, box, installation, tax) came to $606. This is just a quote. Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, my opinion is, never heard of Lighting Audio.

Which to me means two things.

1) Must be a new company therefore, nobody has heard or used there stuff.

2) This guy is trying to get it to sell and is pushing it on to you. I would stick with something more already exposed than something new and at a good price. It might just be crap that he is selling you.

Lightning Audio is NOT a new company.. they've offered the best accessories for years...(Caps, batteries, wires, blocks, etc..)

About a year ago (or more) they hired RF to build them amps and subs... They are good quality but be aware they have two lines...

the BOLT series (cheap) they have that yellow color scheme..

and i forget the other series (Strike??) but they're the subs and amps that are blue/gray/white/black... they are good quailty amps and subs... same as Rockford Fosgate just prettier

Well, I went to the website, and first I'd like to say, thank you for clearing up the spelling. That's why I haven't heard of them. As for "Lightning Audio", okay they exist, but they still suck in my book. Their speakers are built with not so good materials. Even if RF built them the amps or speakers for them, do you think they are doing it to outdo themselves, not likely. Stick with something that is well known to kick. RF amps are definitely cool with kicker speakers.

Check this site out Kicker (http://www.kicker.com/kcsc/mainx.frontpage?p_flash=Y) , that is what you want in a speaker. And you get better quality than Lightning Audio.

The reason that he said he recommended Lightning Audio is because I wasnt replacing the headunit on my g. He mentioned that before going to something like JL, you will need to replace the headunit on the car. What the hell is this guy talking about? All my friends put subs in their cars for bass without replacing any other speakers in the car? Is he just trying to sell me that cheap stuff? Will I be safe if I go with something like Kicker, JL, RF, or MTX?

koojo, just have a listen for yourself... i personally have heard them and like them, though i dont own any of there stuff...

"lightning audio is made by rockford fosgate so they wouldnt out due themselves" ??

c'mon if you think RF would go and put all this time and money into designing and building cheaper stuff for LA you're wrong...

i'm sorry but no industry works like that... if LA had all this money to have RF design them new subs from scratch i think they'd just take the money and build their own. the LA subs are just the same as RF's lineup and i've been told this by numerous RF employees who post on the www.sounddomain.com forum (which btw is THE resource for car audio).

hell are JUN's flywheels less quality than Zex's cause JUN buys them from Zex or whatever? were Stillens POP Chargers less quality than JWTs were..

anyhow.... i liked the LA stuff when i heard it... when i first saw it i was like.. wtf is that crap cause of its looks.. then someone told me about the RF connection and i realized why the subs and amps were so good..

hehe.. kicker? everyone knows one thing about kicker's.. they're licence plate rattlers at best. hell they win db comps all the time but then again thats only a comp to put out a low humming noise.. not music...

Kicker win spl comps shiiizzzzzzz I took on guys with 8 and more comps with two 15" strokers I smacked em down (looking at his trophie) hehehehe... Kicker has gone by on a clever name and hype for years now, they make decent stuff, but for the money a lot better can be had....

Im just confused right now on whats the right one to go after. I dont want to spend that much money, but I do want a good clean hard-hitting system. I was thinking of getting 2 12"s, but some of these companies have high prices. I will need an amp, subs, box, and installation to not go over 800. So im getting really pressed here for money if I go with top name companies. I dont really care what company it is, as long as it has a good background and can hit good clean bass. Any comments/ideas/recommendations?

I dont really wanna buy something off someone or off the net, I want to actually see what I am buying before I put my money to it.
Can someone also answer this please: (my earlier post)

"He mentioned that before going to something like JL, you will need to replace the headunit on the car. What the hell is this guy talking about? A lot of my friends put subs in their cars for bass without replacing any other speakers or decks in the car? Is he just trying to sell me that cheap stuff? Will I be safe if I go with something like Kicker, JL, RF, or MTX?

yeah.. i dont see where the problem would be...

its not like they make subs that work only with aftermarket head units...

how about going with a setup like one of your buddies who listens to the same music, has a stock headunit, and is happy with the sound? :)

They all have different ones, and I just want the best bang for the buck you know. So im stuck with all these choices.

i will send you the pics of my subs and amp...it's a kicking deal, the orion subs are really nice.

They may have suggested you replace your stock head because you don't always get the best sound by using line output convertors to get a RCA low level signal from the Bose head. For subs it really shouldn't matter all that much - but I wouldn't do it if you were going to amp your front/rear speakers.....

Lightning Audio is alright. Like many companies there are several lines as someone said ealier. The one the guy at the store is selling is probably a lower line. You see them all the time (2 subs for $120) It will hit hard, but that's about it. If you want clean bass and a speaker that isn't likely to blow, then put up another 100 bucks for a better model. The bottom line is the amp. Lots of people spend their money on a really nice sub and then buy some no name amp to push their sub.

Anyway, $600 for an entire package is decent if it comes with install. But in my opinion if you're gonna spend the money, might as well get the good stuff.
