damm rain.. hate rain and no abs..and balding tires.. f*ing car and freaking people who can drive and dont signal to switch lanes and still continue and try to run you off the road
i was driving on hilside after picking up my sister i was going realtivly slow about 25-30mph speed limit is 30 on hilside and i was making about 5psi not much.. so i see this damm corolla slowely drifting into my lane and i honking and hes still comming so im forced to hit the breaks so i wont clip his dumb ass.. so i hit it and start to slide, just my luck a damm buss is pulling off as i start to stop.. damm it if that damm bus would of stayed put my car would be fine.. so as i start to slide to a stop the car is pulliing to the bus and the bus clips off my passanger side mirror! damm bastard.. so now im down a passanger side mirror, it sucks, i feel dissappinted in my self that i couldnt stop fast enough.
it could of beeen worse, i could of wreck the car.. thank god its that minor. lesson learnt watch out of ass in the rain that can drive and go extra slow and STAY OFF BOOST!

Dang Mang....that does suck! If I had a violin I would play you the worlds saddest song...but I don't. But you are right, things could have been much worse. You could have clipped your front end, or something much worse. I say praise the bus driver for not pulling out any further than it did.

New tires, new tires. Balding tires and you were still at 5psi and in the rain, ouch. That's like asking to be kicked in the nuts a second time again to see if it did really hurt the 1st time. At least you and your sis are ok, and it was only your passenger side mirror.

did the bus driver get your license plate or did you get any official accident report...because here in NY, if you have an accident with a school bus...they just love to add points to your license.

Heck I have good tires and I was boosting 5psi on my drive back from class today, and my rear end kicked out twice, not too badly though, just enough to wake me up...

I don't touch the boost. I have traction problems up to 45-50mph on dry roads as is. Open diff is not fun. In the rain, I will lose traction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Not fun, well kinda fun.lol Really sorry to hear about the car. You gotta watch for the stupid fucks that don't check thier mirrors. I have had numerous encounters with them but thankfully no wrecks. Should have got his plates but I imagine that was the last thing on your mind at the time. Plus the rain factor. You live, you learn....

i was about to say, replacing the mirror is easy and cheap... if you buy locally in a junk yard or ebay...
why were you running 5psi during the rain?

you should see me in the rain. hahah i can't even see!!! for some wierd reason rain drop likes to stick on my side view mirrors and wipersblades are shot. so i have to like triple check blind spots and whatever's left of my mirrors before i cut. also i the rain. i never and i mean NEVER follow anyone that close. you have no clue how many times on the highway in the rain where we're all goin around 70, then all of then sudden the whole highway comes to a full stop in the rain!!! and my car would slide for a good amount even with threshold braking.

Yeah, forgot to add, no hard feelings, my friends prelude got totaled by a semi when he spun out on good old canadian ice. And trust me, it was the LOVE of his LIFE. He addored it. I'm sure he knows exactly how you feel.

just yesterday my GF spun out doing about 30 MPH on a off ramp in the rain. I one time spun out on I75 during rush hour traffic at about 80 MPH, lucky for me after doing a few back and forth slides i just slid of the road into the grass in the middle. Only damage done was a flat tire from rocks and dirt getting shoved into the wheel.

damn.. could've been worse as someone mentioned. Least you came out of it with a car, I know that's not saying much. I can only imagine how you feel.

I was in a situation like this a year ago, except i didn't get as lucky... put a tear in my eye to see ole Christine beat up like that... Thank god for GM vintage parts though.
You are lucky all you ended up with was a broken mirror, hell you dont need one on the passenger side anyway, that's for newbs.http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/tongue.gif

lol thanks for all the stories its not bad, but its hard to find a gt mirror b/c the gt has a factort areo kit and the mirrors looks like its molded into the body so the regular mirrors just look gay.. o0o well the search goes on. i can still see the thru the mirror, the actual mirror is there its just the shell that got messed up..
on a side note i bought the purple insert for the hks ssqv to day gona install later when the car gets cooler, one of the perks of having a garage under your house, has anyone dealt with the purple insert for the ssqv? i know i have to take off the 4 hex bolts then hte shell comes off and the purple insert slips in. and tips and advice appreciated
thanks

Wait, wait, wait... what the hell does boost have to do with anything?!? Boost, contrary to popular belief, does not = speed. Inertia is a function of mass and velocity, not turbo boost. You could be going 70mph on zero boost or 10mph on full boost. The turbo has NOTHING to do with stopping in the rain. To counteract inertia, a car requires brakes and tires. If you have good brakes, good tires, and you maintain contact with the road, you should be able to drive in the rain. Granted, this soapbox is coming from somebody who drives in the rain with AWD, but I drove a RWD Mustang for a long, long time. No wrecks, and I lived in the rainiest city in the United States (Mobile, AL... we get more inches, Seattle gets more days)

Agreed I don't understand what boost has to do with stopping. Anyways that sucks that you messed up your car. I live North of Seattle, and their are more stupida$$ drivers in this state then any other. Coupled with the non-stop winter rain its an absolute nightmare. I couldn't recall how many close calls I've had so I definantley feel your pain.

Went back and reread, boost wouldn't have really mattered unless you were on the gas. But 5psi at 25-30 mph means you were accelerating. On a hillside? going uphill or downhill (most likely uphill if you were boosting). At that point, even a NA at that speed with piss poor tires and no ABS will still cause you to skid a little outta control.
Main culprit in this case is probably the tires, just lost traction once you locked the brakes, could have been your entire front end instead of the side mirror. Bare tires and rain = accident waiting to happen.

I agree, the mentioning of boost was pointless. My SR20DET under normal driving makes zero boost. I drive with anywhere from 7-15psi (wherever the boost controller happens to be set at that moment) in the rain, it's not the boost that'll get you in trouble. It's the driver.
The car will only go as fast as the driver's right foot lets it.
But I believe hillside, is the name of a street. Rather than an actual hillside.:licka:
