My parents just bought a 1986 6.2L diesel GMC Jimmy. They have had some problems with it overheating. They have been told that this particular year and engine has alot of problems. I am looking for any information on recalls and any common problems that could occur. Thanx for the help.

For recalls either call the dealer service dept with the vin, or go to nthsb.org and look it up. Quickest way is the dealer though. Some of the recalls may have already been done to that truck. The only thing I found at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

for your truck is the following.

Make: GMC
Model: S15
Type: ANY
Year: 1986
Recall Number: 86V131000
Summary:
THE PUSH PULL HEADLIGHT SWITCH MAY HAVE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WHICH ALLOW AN INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT CAUSING HEADLIGHT TO FLICKER OR SUDDENLY GO OUT. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: SUDDEN LOSS OF THE HEADLIGHTS UNDER SEVERE WEATHER OR NIGHTTIME DRIVING CONDITIONS COULD REDUCE DRIVER VISIBILITY WHICH MIGHT RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Consequence:
There is no summary currently available
Remedy:
REPLACE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AS NECESSARY.
Notes:
SYSTEM: HEADLIGHT SWITCH. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS AND TRUCKS/ VANS.
