Well the time has come and the air conditioning gotta go. Has anyone ever removed AC from a third gen before? I'm working with a 1991 z28 (305 tpi) and I'm going to do this soon. I have a few questions for you knowledgeable people:

-Would this be a good time to throw some underdrive pulleys on?

-Is there a special belt I must get once the compressor is off?

If anyone also has a basic idea of what needs to be done please give me some insight. Not completely sure if anything else under the hood rely's on this being in place so any help is appreciated.

I took my ac system out and it wasn't too difficult , took about 30 minutes altoghter. You can get a blower box from a scrap yard fro like an 88 Z or Rs or whatever that only has a blower hole and not the ac set up and mount it there and then seal the rest off with that self applying tar/waxy shit gm uses to seal stuff.

hit up ebay, they sell an idler pully that goes in place of the ac compressor. or you should be able to get the non-ac belt. or worst comes to worst, get a string, and run it around the pullies in the place of the belt, then measure it and buy the same size belt.

dont count on the non-ac belt. didnt work for me on my fourth gen, i had to use the string (the non ac belt was the same for ac. guess they rearranged things for non ac or something). only dont use a string cause string can stretch. i would recommend something like speaker wire. could save you a couple trips to the auto parts store.

I used bought the a/c delete pulley off ebay for 48.00 from some parts depot , got here in like 4 days , hooked it up . ditched the emissions crap and got a belt by Dayco. I can send the belt # and what not if you need. If you are looking for something more like that. It would be the same as if you had no emissions and a A/c system. So eliminate the weight of A/c and still use the same belt as I did with a v-8.

i pulled the ac off my 3.4 and it did wonders. revved faster, better pick up, ran cooler, running voltage went up...

i've heard more than one person talk about this box thing that i need. do i need something like this or my blower won't work? i plan on hooking up some of the lines and hoses but why do i need a box ontop of the delete pulley? i deffinetly want heat, so maybe someone can explain this before i take off my AC and my heat doesn't work hah.
