Total war in the Korean peninsula. It would be one hell of a fight, but I think its unlikely to happen. One of the things I didn't read in the article is the severe lack of resources that NK has on hand. Their military is well equipped, but logistics is their weakest point.

I could live without Texas and New York. Pluss I doupt that they would be able to get a nuke over here. Of course they would pose a big threat to our bases over seas.

Its not just the United States we need to think about if North Korea were to start launching nukes. Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, its shocking what they could do. If they became mad at the Chinese and nuked beijing? Its best to talk with them, and to avoid war at ALL costs. they have agreed to talk, lets not blow them off or belittle them this time.

NK does not currently have the ballistic capabilities to strike the mainland US(unless China did get involved, thanks Clinton). It would most likely go for SK or Japan which in that case NK would be in a state of total war. If you fight SK or Japan then you bring the US into it. And Seeing as they are not in an ideal strategic position with limited mobility, that would not be a good thing for them.

While their military is highly motivated it is still using early soviet model equipment. I can't imagine that a Mig-27 would be able to stand a chance against a F-22.

I'd agree that NK could do some whup-ass on it's neighbors, and put up a hell of a fight if invaded. But they certainly don't have the ability to project power away from their local area.

US and NK: it's like a hive of bees; poke it and you're in trouble. Leave it alone it'll leave you alone. Of course NK may not leave its neighbors alone, which is probably why the article came about.

Now if NK gets long range ballistic missile capability, it's a new ball game.

We have submarines off the Korean coast that would obliterate North Korea and China would do nothing to help them. Japan and possibly Hawaii may take a hit, but it would be the end of North Korea to try it.

4) They are running out of fuel supplies (anyone know anything about japan and pearl harbor? we cut off Japan's oil supply, this lead to their attack.) North Korea is getting desperate

We should have done something about this situation instead of worrying about Iraq. No one noticed (unless you are a super political/history , actually just all aroung, DORK) the fact that Korea kept comming to us demanding and threatening us and we just had the "talk to the hand" attitude. THen later we wanted to go and talk it out? WTF? NK is like hell no we arent talking about this anymore so KISS THIS!

their culture hates the US because the US targeted and killed millions of civilians in what was a Korean civil war. not a few thousand like 9/11... millions!

also without nukes Seol would get totalled, there are meant to be like 22,000 artillery peices within range or something. thats a LOT of shells.

NK is not an offensive power, it is defensive, while it has nuke capacity it's main purpose is as a deterrant to the US, if Saddam really had nukes (or gas, WMD in general) and would really use them within 45 minutes do you think the US might have been a little more cautious about stealing the country and its oil?

Agreed, we "thought" Iraq had WMD and they were a threat to us. Well NK HAS WMD threatening to use them on us but we go ahead and invade Iraq!?!

NK is being denied oil, Iraq had lots of it.
