Hi, Ive never owned a stealth before but am planning on buying one this spring, preferably a 94-96 R/T or R/T turbo. I was just wondering if you have any tips as far as what I should look for when picking one out to buy, or if you have modification tips that you would like to share.
Thanks in advance

Tip 1...Read the FAQ
If there is something that isn't covered in there, ask away. And welcome to AF.

i would suggest you stray from the 94-95 turbo models, ONLY if you wish to datalog. those years have hybrid ECU's, so they're a pain. what's wrong with the 1st gen (91-93)? gotta love those pop-up lights! tho if you get a 99 3000GT, then you'll have no problem ever with lifter tick! ---->check FAQ!

There is a logger out to log 94-95's now. One of the guys on 3si developed one.

Ive heard that 91-93 are prone to tranny problems, correct me if i am wrong. Also, what is the upkeep on the turbos do they really wear out over miles? Like if the stealth had 100k miles on it. Thanks

all years of the 3000GT are prone to tranny problems...BECAUSE people drive them like sports cars should be driven: HARD! na, its not that bad. but on the VR4s, the synchros have a tendency to fail/wear out over time. so that's one thing you would need to check over if you were looking at buying a 3000GT (VR4 especially).
all turbos, no matter what car you have, CAN wear out over time. In order to properly take car of the turbos, a turbo-timer is necessary to keep the engine running after you have turned the car off, so that you can let the oil in the turbos cool off, AND let the turbos cool off.
as a general rule, sports cars tend to have more problems than other types of cars (unless you buy a ford, in which case you're just screwed from the beginning). but you just have to know how to properly maintain and take care of you car, so it will last long, AND so you can fix it WHEN it breaks. I emphasize WHEN because sports cars are driven hard, and when that occurs, things break. so just be prepared. it should be an investment, but for most of us, its also fun and learning.

Turbo timers are one of the biggest waste of money ever. ALl you have to do is if you give the car a hard run then takeit easy for the last little bit of your journey and thats cool enough. A turbo timer is nothing more than a waste of gas. Ask ANY of the hardcore TT guys on 3si, most agree.

lol i have a 94, have a datalogger and it works beautifully . . . in fact, now the 94-95 models are the two best years to datalog because the 1st gen dataloggers do like 70 samples/sec, the 96+ do like 15 samples/sec, and the 94-95 do like 150+ samples/sec, of course i dont feel like looking up the exact numbers but they are rough estimates

You think the datalogger is worth the money? I kinda wanted one but being I am only a base I cant justify spending $250 plus a palm for something that wont get much use unless I get a 94-95tt.
