V-35 GTR drivetrain

i read in an Australian car mag (MOTOR) that the new Skyline will have a unique chassis not based on the the Infiniti G35, it will be rear wheel drive with the front wheels only getting power when they need grip, but most shocking is that Nissan have decided to drop the ATESSA all wheel drive in favour of.... ELECTRIC MOTORS!!!!, one driving each front wheel, and it will only get a 7 speed sequential gearbox.

Right. The G35 is pretty much identical to the current V35 Skyline. The V36 will be out next year on a new version of the FM platform. The GT-R launched one year later will be based around that.

Yep. It's a more practical and efficient layout when you think about it. With ATESSA-ETS you had the additional weight of a center differential and driveshafts to transfer power up front. Don't forget that these parts move, so rotational mass comes into play, raising weight further.
Nissan's electric motor system is e4wd. It's already being used on a few vehicles like the Cube and Tiida. Since the electric motors are only on the front wheels, additional weight is minimized. They are probably more responsive, too.

That bullsh*t. If nissan decides to use electric motors on the new GT-R their making a horrible decision.

Actually, it is very true. It has been stated by nissan already, their plans for the next gtr include these changes. Know for a fact before you speak.

Care to explain why? The guys at Best Motoring(professional racers, y'know?) seem to think it's a great idea. Check out the volume 'Skyline GT-R: The Prodigy.'

Because I don't like a 4WD drivetrain to really be a RWD setup with electric motors. If it were up to me, id make a true 4WD drivetrain.

to me the electric motors are the stupidist idea evr its like he said make it a true awd not some hybrid i hate electric cars they suck and the new skyline should be like the old ones with ATESSA system or HICAS

I will be towing a 1997 Nissaan P.U. that has an automatic transmission.
It will be towed with all 4 wheels on ground.
Do I need to disconect the drive shaft?

WTF...You guys are flat-out retarded...They dont mean electric motors to power the wheels but to power the Atessa 4-Wheel Steering I wish people knew what atessa was...jesus.
Its going to be AWD/AWS for sure and it will be with a 6SPD MT thats all been released.

doesn't having the electric motors mean that more power would be put to the ground since all the power from the gas engine will be fed to 2 wheels and not 4?

Exactly. The e4wd system will mean less drivetrain losses. It'll almost mean less drag during high speed runs, because the e4wd won't power the wheels unless you need it.
It's funny how people don't want this awesome, new technology. Heck, even the GT-R's target, the 997 Turbo, will get electronic awd.

the 997 turbo has permanent awd, no "torque split". i believe that the 998 is to have a different awd, mainly cause the power will b up above 500hp, the most for a stock awd car(in full production).
as for the new technology fuck it, the old always worked. the electronic motors are going to be expensive as hell. y do u think that the upscale mercedes benz are not well liked by car mags. they tend to spend more time in a shop than on the rd. the wiring is so confusing that the mechanics or elec specialist doesnt know what to do. my aunt's lexus spent 6 months in a repair shop before it even hit 500miles. she turned the a/c on and moved the seat foward at the same time, and it shorted.
i say go with the proven technology, it's worked for porsche, ferrari and mclaren on their street cars. even if this tech was used on others cars, the two mentioned b4 are nowhere near the performance of the gtr.
even if it saved a few pounds, there are many ways of saving it somewhere else. seats, body, chassis, windows, engine, wheels, the average wheel on a high end supercar weighs 12lbs, the average wheel on a lower end sports coupe, like a supra, hey are 50lbs. do the math and multiply by 4. have no spare tire(use run flats). plus for every hundred pounds saved, 1/10 of second is taken off 0-60 and quater times, and lap times. for the 70g, u want performance from a performance coupe, i dnt care if the seats were racing seats with a seat cover over them, i'm not taking it on vacation.
the only reason i can see this being a really bad idea, it drains the battery on a defect. the good, it may make timing for splits even quiker than that of the r34

Crazy Nissan. I didn't know they were using an electronic AWD system. That's freaky. I read the power output is supposed to be around 525 hp, just to have an advantage over all the other high performance production cars coming out in the next year or so. I was kind of surprised that Nissan didn't keep the RB26 in it, but I guess all things need changing once in a while.

Isn't that how the AWD system in the R34 worked? It was just rear wheel drive until the computer sensed wheel slip in the rear. Oh well, what ever it is, it will destroy any who oppose its power. Long live the GT-R!

525 seems a lil much for a tt 6cyl. and it's jnot power that it lacks its aero

yes, but the benefit of the new system is that none of the gas motors power is sacrificed to power the front wheels so it's all 440 hp to the wheels(or however much it'll make after drive train loss)

not really, it depends on how you rate the power but the VQ motor's gonna make 440+ and each electric motor makes i think 40hp, so 40hp x 2 + 440hp=520hp.

i still doubt that nissan will put that much out, maybe if they made a special version, spec nur, or something, or leave it to nismo to bring up the power, 450-475hp seems like a good number to compete against the cars that it will. relize that at 70g, the 911, viper and vette are going to be the main compitition. the vette zo6 is 80g, the 911(turbo) is 130g and the viper is 90g. the closest in performance is the turbo 911, with 478hp and awd. the body on the porsche is also much smoother, unless they do round of the front end and ass end on the gtr.
if they round it off, there's no way it will sell, ppl will just say its a g35 on steroids. if they based it of a 4dr g35, then it might retain it's boxy-ness as the previous gens did.

and i've got a question y do some ppl consider the gtr's awd, wen in reality its closer to 4x4. yes there is a difference to anyone who doesnt know. awd is wat my stealth has, wat a subaru has, all tires putting power to the ground at the same time. 4x4's drive with the rear wheels(in most cases, ford is changing that) but when u, press a button or pull a stick on the colomn or floor it switches to four wheel drive.
now being that the gtr's drive with rwd(like 4x4's) untill there's a slip in the rear and sends wat? 50% torque to the front. so that sounds more like a 4x4 then awd.

I just hope that Nissan Folows through with everything else that they have had up their sleve for over ten years. The sequential gearbox isn't actually sequential if they are using the one I think they are... It would be a CVT that acts like a sequential. The "Tuner" version of it should blow your minds. If anyone actually knows of the excentroid CVT then feel free to chime in. I have been saving up for this car for over five years and I have my deposit in. I can't wait to start stripping off the crap that the artists put in to make it look nice and see what the engineers at Nissan have been working on for nearly a decade.
It's about time that they released the dream of MR SKYLINE!!!!
