Programming Instructions for a Remote for 2001 Avalon

I have purchased a remote on EBAY (all numbers match) but with the instructions that I have been provided, I cannot get the computer to recognize the Remote. Can anyone provide me with instructions on this or advise me. I must be doing something incorrectly.
