bad smell

My 2005 Caravan has a terrible smell after I shut it off. It seems to be coming from under the hood. It has been back to the dealer twice and they can't locate the source. They tell me that it is the coating on the exhaust. Anyone else had this problem?

I have a 2005 T & C and no such smell and I have a very good sense of smell. Make absolutely certain that your air conditioning condensate drain is not stopped up. Easy to tell after running a/c for awhile, you will notice a puddle of water under the passenger side near the firewall. The compressor has to have been runninng to create the condensate. That is a very common cause of "funny smells".

This is true but doesn't explain the "Funny Smell" if it's the condensation it would be odourless. When funny smells come from under the hood I always suspect anti-freeze. That stuff smells bad when it gets hot. Being a new car they may have missed tightening one of the coolent hose clamps or you have a badly manufactured hose and under pressure while driving you may have a tiny squirt of antifreeze, looking like a fine stream shot from a syringe needle, and it's landing somewhere on the engine where it is hot. Have the dealer connect a pump to the cooling system and put it under pressure. There is such a tool used for checking cooling systems for leaks. Hope this helps ...
