94 S-10 4wd probs?

1994 S-10, When i push the button for hi range you hear the transfer case engage light stays solid all sounds good. Just dont think the front hubs are engaging. Couldnt make it through a farm road the other day with an inch of mud on it. How do check if they are engaged? If they dont what do i look at first? :confused:

To check your front axle engagement, with the engine running put the transfer case into 4 wheel high, transmission in neutral and jack up the right front wheel. If the front axle is engaged, when you turn the right front wheel, you should see the front drive shaft turn, if not, the most common cause is the vacuum switch on top of the transfer case (it gets stuck). If that's OK, check for vacuum to the switch and vacuum to the actuator (under the battery tray). If you get to that point and all looks good, manually pull the actuator diaphram back, that should lock in the front axle. If it does, the actuator has a hole in it. If not, the cable is bad, or there is a problem in the right side axle tube. If it has
transmission fluid in any of the vacuum lines or actuator, replace the vacum switch.

Pulled battery tray all looked good cable was free etc., Traced vac line for a litle and there it was,disconnected at a splice. Must have done it when i changed the heater core.............all better now!

At least it's fixed for the mud or snow, which ever comes first.
