2000 camry Solinoid problem.

I had my check engine light came on, so I took it to the shop to see what the error code was (which I've forgotten now), but they told me it indicated that solinoid E was failing.

Does any one know where solinoid E is, and can I replace it my self?

Thanks
Joe

Solenoid E is inside the transmission. It is one of the 4 transmission solenoids. If you buy the manual for your car, it should tell you which one is solenoid E. You can only access this solenoid by hoisting the car up and removing the trans pan. You will need a multimeter to measure the resistance. It's best to let the dealer handle this one.

Unfortunately, trans solenoids has some calibration data associated with it, so changing the solenoid won't fix your problem because then you need to recalibrate the trans control module with the data, which only a dealer can do.

There are 2 types of trans solenoids: ON/OFF and variable force (VFS). The ON/OFF is usually activated during 3rd gear to 4th gear shifts. If you put in the wrong one in the wrong location, it won't work.

My advice: leave this to the experts. It involves a lot of special tools.

Thanks for you reply. I haven't noticed any problems yet, just the chk engine light stays on. I don't like doing anything having to do with the Trans, so I will let the experts handle it.

thanks
Joe
