Oil additives

Anyone use any oil additives and is it really necessary ?

I've read alot of good things about Lucas (they make a Synthetic Oil Stabilizer additive) and I use their fuel treatment often. As far as my 2000 Blazer with 74K goes, I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic for the last 15K or so with no problems.....just was wondering if it would be beneficial to run the additive also.....

i use the lucas in my 91 makes it run real quiet and smooth and i also used engine restore it makes your gas mileage go up 5 miles and run quiet

my 2 cents...take it or leave it.
you dont need any adds to full synth.
(as long as you have no mechanical probs..rings/lifters etc.)
many adds break down the adds allready in good oil.
this has been proven in many tests allover the net.
i saw a video demo on a few sites that show lucas changes oil viscocity ratings and causes the oil to foam....which is really bad.
a friend who owns a repair shop says they only add lucas to engines as a last resort..to quiet...bad lifters,engine bearings etc.
agian my few cents.......
i just use good oil...no need for me to buy some miracle product...cause some nascar racer says so.

Have to agree here and add my two cents...

Oil additives should only be used prior to a change. Like, seafoam in the oil after draining out your filter into a collection pan and adding a half pint back in to top off. Idle it for half an hour. Yes, IDLE it. Do not drive it.

Immediately drain and replace with a quality synthetic. I did this before swapping to synthetic to clean the goop out of the engine. Alot of dirt and crap just came out of the drain plug. Since the day I put full Synth in (Mobil 1 5w-30) it shows no signs of leaks, consuption, and it is still ultra-clean after 3500 miles on a new AC-Delco filter.

No other additive would ever touch my oil if the truck is running good. If I hear lifter/valve noise - the trick above for 20 minutes to half an hour of idle at operating temps usually clears everything up. Refill/changing with synthetic keeps it clean and running right, never need to add anything to the oil EVER. ;)

My 2 cents. Engine oils in the market place (API-SL) contain a very precise balance of additives and any aftermarket additive may compromise those additives and lead to a non desirable condition in the oil and one may not realize it until it is too late. If you do add any I would not recommend leaving the oil in the vehicle very long. Some of the aftermarket additives contain NON desirable components that would be very detrimental to an engine.
