Legit Motor or Not?

My friend Devin just bought a B16 motor for his 92 Civic. The thing is it has no I.D. on it. the Plate on the front of the motor is completely gone! (The one that tells the block name,B16, and the number. Also all other I.D. marks are gone. So we don't know if its stolen or its an aftermarket style block. What kind of trouble would he get into because it has no marks or numbers at all. The plates are completely shaved away. It looks like the numbers were never stamped on the block. Devin paid $1350 for the whole swap and every thing else like the tranny and ECU are legit for sure because he got them from Import Auto Salvage but the block and head are from an unknown source. If you/police can't determine whether its hot or not do they worry about it if everything else checks out? Please Respond

dont worry about it, someone probably just stole it and ground it off.

What but what about police issues? Will they care if it ever comes up or does it. Alot of people are here in N.C. have stolen shit but they never get caught. When would the police ask to see numbers or would they? If there are none then what do they do and what will my friend have to tell them about it. Will they take the motor if the numbers are gone because you can't tell there ever were any.

They will pull him over, pop his hood, see theres no number, pull the motor out, arest him, murder his family, and torture his poodle.
Just keep the receit from where he baught it. I dont think it would ever come up, besides thats not the serial number, thats the block stamping. Alot OEM replacment blocks dont come with that stamping because sometimes blocks will be the same with differnt motor models. More than likely this is the case becuase the soft aluminum would show if someone had taken a grinder to it.
