I was driving home and the front right tire started to pull and yerk. It felt like a belt in the front tire broke because it wobbled. I checked the cv boot and see that it is ripped. I took off the tire and was spinning just the hub back and froth and it bounded so tight I couldn't spin the hub until I worked it again. Would this be a bearing or the cv shaft? Anyone have an idea?

I would lean toward the CV shaft. Especially if it has a cracked boot. While your there, check the hub for play. Take the tire off and try to move the hub up and down. If it moves, it needs to be replaced.

o.k I need to know if I have to take off the top ball joint in order to remove the shaft? It is lose but unable to get it out. Should I take off the wheel bearing assemble instead, then slid the shaft out that way?

Yeah, take off the wheel bearing assy. It should be just three or 4 bolts and a nice hammer to losen it.

It could be a bearing problem that was caused by a bad cv joint. Pull the the front axle and see if the rotor still locks

O.K. I got the shaft out by removing the bearing assemble. Does anyone have the tork spec for the bearing assemble, 3 bolts and the front burr that holds the hub. Thanks for the information.
