Change Engine Head Good Idea?

hi i have a civic 91 sedan eg and my engine is a d15b7 carbby, my idea is just to change the head(block) to a d15b vtec or a d16 is dis a good idea because i only have a budget of AU$1000.thx for future answers

no it isnt its an efi setup and the cost of the conversion would not be beneficial, due to all the extra wiring, ecu, etc that would be needed.

I don't think there's ever a VTEC engine that's carb, so the D15B VTEC isn't carb. As for changing heads--know first what your goals are. You just don't change heads and expect to drive off. Or rather, you just don't change anything on your motor if you don't have any goals in mind. What would your car be--daily driven, for race/strp, combi daily drive/strip? Depends really what you'd like your car to be. Next off is of course to research--know what you want to put in and read up on those. It will take much guesswork off, plus give you some more knowledge about your car.

thx guys for the prompt reply!well i heard that efi is better than carby due to better power (dats wat i heard).And my goal wif my car is jas to get enough hp to keep up with my friends (silvia,180,integra) and my d15 engine i cant get enough hp so a vtec should kinda minimise my problem.i heard i can do a ls/vtec conversion.is dat a good idea?if so i heard if i floor the car too much it could blow the engine.true?

ehhh?? u can't do an ls/vtec w/ a d15 block. u will first have to swap in a ls block than retrieve a b-series head, tranny, ecu, etc. its not a simple bolt-on process!! and yes u can blow your motor if u give it to much throttle over time and also ur tranny if u don't shift gears!!

so wat would be a good suggestion?keep my engine as is? or upgrade it to wat type? preferably VTEC engine.. not interested in whole engine swap jas block/head swap thanks

I would rather that you do the whole swap just for starters rather than a mini me. A good bet, like I stated before, would be the JDM D15B, which is a VTEC engine and is quite mean for a 1500 engine. Just make sure you have the right ECU for it (either P08 or P28) to make it run right. Had mine installed, but the POS of a shop that made the swap used my stock ECU (P27) instead of the ECU that goes with it, so now I have to find a P08 ECU (they even sent me the wrong ECU, which is a P07 automatic, when my engine's for manual transmission). Dumbass of a shop.

hahah shit bad luck man.should of complaint to em.since i live in australia (melbourne) i duno which shop to ask bcoz most have non vtec engines.also im in a tight budget so a mini me would really suit me atm.A whole engine swap will really kill me financially.wat is the up and downs on a mini d15b vtech??if so can i fit a b16 block only with stock harness of mine?

Also is it possible to put vtec kit into my engine as the only intention i want is a vtec engine!

no you cant just add vtec to a motor. VTEC is a combination of sensors and valvetrain components designed for both low end economy and high rpm power. it cannot be added onto anything, the motor would have to have had the vtec already on it.
