Did all firebirds 82-84 come with a spoiler because my 82 firebird s/e doesn't have one and I was wondering if the previous owner had it taken off or if it just flat out didn't come with one.

yeah dude,I was wondering because all the third gens I have seen have a spoiler.I am not to bummed that mine most likely did not come with one because I have a crager 1 piece louver and I feel the bird would look funny with the louver and spoiler on at the same time.late.

all third gen f-birds had spoilers. the early ones had the flat 2 pillar ones, then in 85 they installed a wrap around style on the trans ams.

Yeah, I think the wrap around one is the best looking spoiler on a third gen.One time i saw a bird with one of those ricer spoilers you could use to hang dry your clothes. :screwy:

Which spoiler is more aerodynamical:The two pillar one or the wrap around one?
CreepingDeath94
12-08-2004, 08:06 AM
They would both have minimal aerodynamic usefullness in normal driving conditions. Unless your hitting 100 mph+ it shouldn't make much of a difference. Its whichever one one you like better.

my speedometer only goes to 85, do you knoe how fast those 82 s/e bad boys went out of the factory cuz mine sure feels like it keeps getting faster after it hits 85.

actually the wrap around isnt a 3 piece its all in 1,
the early wrap arounds were made kinda crappy and disinigrated, (came apart) but if you can get one that came from a 91 or 92 trans am they are either made from metal or fiberglass. but i have never found one.

Does a three piece spoiler look cool on a 3rd gen firebird?I see them on 3rd gen camaros but never on a 3rd gen bird.

http://www.97ta.com/videos.shtml if you watch the 82 and 83 firebird ads, they clearly show a brand new firebird, with no spoiler. They made some firebirds that had no factory spoiler

Whats crakin. Im in SoCal and my hatch is in good shape. But I would like to have a 2 pillar spoiler and before I buy one can one be installed on a 3rd gen that didnt come with one.Im thinking just line up the bolts and drill the holes or is their something else I dont know about.
CreepingDeath94
12-09-2004, 11:35 PM
I don't know if theres anything else involved in that job but drilling holes and bolting the spoiler in. When you do this, make sure you have some sort of weatherstripping or seal for the holes so water doesn't get in there.

A spoiler on the rear of your car creates downforce ,wich causes wind pressure to distribute added weight across the rear of the car.Spoilers in the front cause oversteer, wich is the pressure of the wind exerting a downward force measurable in pounds on the front end of the vehicle.front nor rear spoilers make a car faster.in fact they make it slower,by adding weight to the car at higher speeds. If you dont think aerodynamics is that big of deal,Get on the highway, and crank it up to about 80,and stick your hand out the window.then imagine if your hand was the size of your car.i have some neat wind tunnel tests pictures i should put in my photo gallery
