Tuning Cams

I recently had a set of comp cam stage 1's put in my 96GSR and have a pair of Skunk2 cam gears sitting here. I was planning on having the cam gears installed and dyno tuned but i was wondering if i should wait for money for a custom chipped ECU or other form of fuel management. Would it be wiser to wait or should things be running well without any other FM?

i think u should at least get a fuel presure regulator before tuning. the best thing to do is to wait and get some thing to tune the ecu such as hondata or even a vtec controller. but if ur like me i know u cant wait.

It depends on how long it is going to be before you get some sort of engine management. If it is going to be any length of time greater than a month I would go ahead and get a FPR and then have the shop tune it. You are going to more than likely be running rich in the lower rpms and a little lean in the upper rpms. I know that I have a set of Crower 62404 cams for my LS ( yes I know that we are talking about a GSR in this thread) and when I installed them the car would not run, it would start but would die LOL. Your car is not running anywhere near as well as it will, so tune it.

So you think i should be in the clear with a FPR? No need for piggyback or custom chip? That would be great because funds are short, just making sure i am not misunderstanding.
PS i am seeing quite a price range on the FPRs, could you shed any light on reliable brands?

I am saying that you will be ok to tune the fuel pressure and cam timming for now. You will be best off getting hondata, vafc etc but you need to do some sort of tuning. So if you don't have the money right now for ecu upgrades then go ahead and tune it with just the adjustable cam gears and FPR.
As for the FPR I have a B&M FPR you can get them for around $80 shipped off the net. They are all you need really. :2cents:
