Trouble Starting 96 Sierra

I hope someone can help me out. 96 GMC Sierra - 1500.
Lately, I have had some trouble starting my truck. From time to time, when I go to turn it on, nothing happens and it won't turn over. I can try it over and over, and eventually, it starts turning over. Once it turns over it starts fine. The truck drives fine.
I have noticed that when I turn the key to "on," sometimes my electrical gauge will not move at all, while the other gauges start to move. When this happens, the truck doesn't try to start. When the electrical gauge does move when I turn the key to on, the truck starts up fine.
I am a rookie, so I don't know much. I'm assuming it may have to do with the ignition.
Any and all help is welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

Check and clean battery connections, they have a habit of coming loose on their own

I'll echo what Jeremy said. The positive battery terminal on my 97 sometime works loose causing the situation you describe. It has done this with 3 different batteries. Also the positive terminal tends to corrode easy so check and clean it. Good luck.

Another symptom of bad connections at the battery is when the truck is running the battery voltmeter will read under 12volts. Just something else to look for when the terminals start corroding
