Theoritical Racing Question

I've been thinking, and I dont know what the answer would be,so please bear with me:

Lets say there's 2 cars... 1 ESi FWD NT, 1 TSi Turbo FWD. Both 5spd, and both drivers are equal (theoritical). Lets say that the TSi is stock, rated at 215hp@w, and the ESi is also at 215hp@w. The ESi has a ton of mods making it up there without a turbo. Lets say that both of them went to race. Now, a turbo takes time spool and has lag, so, would the ESi win? The ESi would have all that power straight at the wheels, no lag time. So, would the ESi win?

Just a weird question, b.c. I have too much time at school, not doing the work I should be.

Well if it helps out, i have a 1g 4g63N/A bored 0.5, port and polished throthle body and head, crane cams, 3" exhaust pipe, and i've beat stock turbo dsm's. Now with very little mods on the turbo dsm and its a different story. Also keep in mind that the turbo dsm only have 215hp when the wastegate is open (I think between 3.5rpm and 5.5rpm stock). If you have a naturally aspirated engine, your power curve is longer and more steady but produce less power unless your modded.

It all depends on the power curves as was said above...they will obviously make peak torque and hp at different rpms. So assuming weight, traction, drivers etc are equal..it would come down to the powerband.

So, really, there is no 1 answer to the question right?

But im just saying... even if e erything was the same. Thats why its theoritical. It'll never happen where everything is the same. But, what if it was? Who would win?

Like I said...it would come down to the differences in the powerband and gearing...and since you didn't specify the length or parameters of the race, it is impossible to answer.

You mentioned the turbo lagging, however, if you launch a turbo car, your boost is instantaneous...your rpms are already up, so you aren't waiting for the turbo to spool (if it is small-medium turbo, which it would be if you are only making 215hp)
So all of that is meaningless.

Assuming you had given a length of this hypothetical race, then it would come down to how the hp and torque was distributed throughout the powerband, and which powerband and gearing the race favored...which is all mathematical paper-racing.

I think what you want to hear is that the N/A car will win. There is some advantage to making low RPM power, take for example a 10cyl viper, and some make upwards of 800whp. Go to Gran Turismo 3 and take 2 of the same car, with a turbo and one N/A. I think the N/A will win.

Another underlying point is that you won't make much more than 200hp with a 2.0 liter n/a DSM, so nobody gets to compare the two.
