start up

ok here goes, 96 gt 2v v8 when i start the car it cranks and runs at about 4 to 500 rpm for 5 to 10 seconds then it pics up to about 1500 rpm and this is only after the car has sat overnight. my question is is this normal car has 113670 miles on it. i recently changed my fuel pmp but it had started doing this before i changed it. also can you change the oil pan gasket without taking the engine out i haven't got under the car to look but was told by dealer that you had to.

not sure about the idle problem, but yes you must raise the motor to get the pan out. not too sure what the best method is on a modular.

To change the oil pan gsket you either need to raise the motor or drop the k-member.

I had that problem a long time ago, and it eventually turned into the car having a hard time starting, and did not want to start/stay running when cold. It would idle very low, then just when it was ready jump up to normal idle and run fine. This went on for like 2 years, and just today I fixed it. Coolant temperature sensor, 20 bux at auto zone. Car fires right up now. Oh btw, I have the exact same car. Good luck.
