cylinder mess up

well heres a stupid question for anyone. on a D16Y7 98 honda civic motor, which is considered cylinder 1? the one next to the timing belt or the one closest to the distributor cap??

Cylinder #1 is the cylinder closest to the timing belt.
Cylinder #4 is the cylinder closest to the distributor.

hey man thanx alot, i was adjusting my valves and it was just sounding horrible but now that i know which cylinders were which my car sounds brand new. It sounds like a brand new car.
