Is There Something Wrong?

Hey everyone. Last night I was testing out my WRX's power, and at a complete stop I floored it and got a delay reaction and it eventually got fast but didn't have that kick in the beginning like I thought it would. Is it because I have auto tranny? or is there something wrong with my wrx?
Another quick question: If I put it into neutral and rev it around 2 to 3K rpm then put it into drive, will that be bad for the car because that's the only way I seem to get that "burning out" reaction from my WRX.

It's called turbo-lag, it's a consequence of having a car with a single turbo.

The engine only produces enough exhaust gases over 3200rpm to effectively spool the turbo and it will be 3600rpm before you start to feel a significant 'kick'.
The time before the turbo really kicks in is referred to as turbo lag, it's normal for these cars although it can be overcome through various methods.

Neutral-dropping, what you're referring to doing when revving the engine high and then dropping it into drive is VERY bad for the transmission, you can effectively destroy the transmission doing this, I DON'T recommend doing it, at all.
Why do you want a WRX to 'burn out'?
The whole beauty of drving AWD is the fact that there is no spin at the line, meaning you have instant traction and will always be quick off the line.

if you want quisker starts dont just floor it if you have an auto WRX, it will just make it lag more, the best thing to do is give it 1/2 to 3/4 gas, then when your boost starts kicking in then floor it. if you want to have less turbo lag get a cat-less uppipe, and a turbo back exhaust with a high flow cat, or w/o a cat

thats an 05 WRX, and you're dropping an auto tranny in at 3k RPMs?Thats so crazy it is ridiculous and since you mentioned that you were testing out the power means you probably just got it...Have you broken in the motor yet? you must not want to keep that thing in tip top condition. I agree completely with Freakray, you need to STOP doing that and take it easy on her for the first few miles.

i heard taking out the intake silencer helps the turbo spool earlier, not sure exactly how much earlier but hey.

For the sake of appreciation of a fine japanese automobile, take it easy on that tranny, they are not indestructable you know...

You can also hold your foot on the brake pedal and rev it, then release the brakes for a quick launch. This is also bad for the transmission, but not as bad as slamming it into gear like that. In fact, launching in general is bad for the transmission of any car, but especially one with AWD, as energy is dissipated through the drivetrain instead of through wheelspin (as would be the case in a 2WD car).

Is There Something Wrong?

There will be if ur doing that. :eek7: :uhoh: :sly:

PLease don't do that...If I could only have a WRX.

Then I read that ur doing that to it? It just breaks my heart.....

Oh the humanity.

PLease adhere to the adive givin above.

Not to bust ur bubble....but a WRX, automatic? Why?

I don't think any 4 banger should come automatic. Nor should any car with muscle. Buts thats just MHO.
