i know that you guys have answered these questions too many times. sorry. but i couldn't find anything straightforward enough in the FAQ's.
i'm saving for an s14 either way. i want more power but getting from A to B is my priority. i need dependible transportation...
-if i go sr20det will there be greater risk for complications in the long run?
-will it pass smog?
-will i be able to drive it well over 100,000 miles with regular, BASIC maintenance? (as my every day car)
Thanks for your time...really appreciate it.

any engine listed there will last over 100K if its maintained properly. another more important point is that if you can spot small problems before they become major problems helps big time too. and about passing smog, i hear too many different storys so it really depends on where you live.
the complications that comes with SR's is that most mechanics have no clue what it is, and whenver soemthing breaks you need to wait for atleast a week for parts to come by mail.

yea i here good and bad for having it as a daily driver. Cuz if its a daily driver you will need parts pretty much ASAP, and with a SR you may have to wait a while as TatII said. But also you can go for years without having a problem. So i guess some of it just depends on the engine, some last some break its just luck of the draw i guess. But something tells me once you get an SR your going to go out and drive it hard for lets say the first week or so you have it. Then maybe mellow out a bit. But its a good engine choice and it should work well over 100k miles.

In your profile you say you live in LA California. No, you will never pass smog unless you know someone. Legally you will never pass smog. You should just turbo the ka. It's a good motor, and maintained well, it will easily last over 100,000 miles with a turbo. When it comes time to smog, take off the turbo. Only if you need to pass visual.
