Formula 1 - Jordan 191 (1/20 Tamiya)

FINALLY FINISHED!!! It only took approximately 7 years...
Yep, I took a small holiday from modelling, like 6 years worth.

Anyway, here's the finished product, and my best build to date! I really pushed the limits of my skill on this one, with regards to airbrushing, masking, decal applying, etc, so I'm pretty happy with the end result.

There's a few rather minor flaws, but overall I think it's of quite a high standard.
Enough talking, time for some pics...

What I actually did with the mirrors was put a small rectangle of aluminium foil in the area that was supposed to be painted silver. It came out looking much more realistic that plain old silver paint, which really doesn't give a proper mirror effect. The foil turned out quite well, even though you can only just see it in the pic below. I recommend it anyday over just silver paint. Oh, I also brushed a coat or two of Pledge (Future) over the foil to make it stick, and to give it a deeper reflective look.

I really like the way the tires have come out, as if they're fairly used and worn out. All that sanding really paid off!

So there it is, the jewel of the collection so far!
I've got 3 F1 kits waiting to go now, it's a just a matter of deciding which to do...

Constructive comments welcome.
Cheers all,

Captain Mark

Cheers folks!

For those of you that are interested, here are a few shots that show the engine. To be honest I didn't put masses of effort into the engine, although I did try a few new things like filling small gaps between piping/exhaust, "better" spring painting (you'll notice different shock/spring colours), etc, that I hadn't tried before.

On my next F1 kit I'll try to add in custom built wiring and proper coil springs. My Tyrrell Yamaha 023 is still in the mail, I'm going nuts waiting for it!!! I could always just start the Leyton House... hmmm...

1. Note the different shock absorber colours, where I was playing around with different painting methods. My main lesson was; use good quality brushes, and have a steady hand, and you can't go far wrong. And don't be afraid to fork out a few dollars for new brushes when the old ones start to go. Good quality brushes really do make a hell of a difference!
