Car's broke

I've got a nasty clicking/knocking sound coming from the driver's side front wheel, and it gets a lot louder when I'm just cruising or let off the gas. At full throttle it hardly does it at all though. Also, after giving it some gas and trying to brake, I have to hit the brake pedal a few times to go from total mush to stopping power. I just got new axels, think they're junk? The boot is in fine shape.. Maybe it's a rotor warped to hell? Maybe my caliper crapped out? I haven't taken the wheel off to check yet, just thought I'd ask here first.

if you have to pump your brake pedal to build pressure i would be concerned. check over your caliper and rotor. look for a fluid leak around the caliper or cracks in the rotor, etc.

This might sound basic, but check to see if your wheel bolts are tight enough...i had a similar prob a few weeks ago with the knockin and pinging sound from my tire...turns out my wheel was about to fall off...not sure about the braking situation though

I checked last night and that's what was wrong. I'm pissed because I can't find out why they keep loosening though.

So its all good now ? That was an easy fix. I cant figure out why they would loosen on there own tho mmmmm.

this may be dumb of me to ask but do you tighten them by feel or do you torque them to the right rate they just may not be torqued down enough

I have a torque wrench.

10 years, 4 cars, and not 1 stripped bolt...must be doing something right....

Id check both the threads on the stud and bolt, one of them may be stripped

None were stripped. I tightened them all down to 80 ft/lbs, took a 20 minute trip to school, and by then they were all hand-loose. I took out my lugwrench and tightened them all down as hard as I freaking could, drove home and had no problems. When I got home I took my wheels off to change the pads/rotors and I didn't just strip a stud, but the fucking thing broke off with the lug nut!

I tapped out the stud and put a new one in with all new lug nuts on that wheel, so hopefully this along with new pads/rotors will remedy my problem.

well, good luck with it.

would the "lock tight" fluid be a bad idea.

Greenblurr93

it shouldnt be needed, there is something else causing the problem and using loc-tite would only be a temp fix, i think he should investigate and try and fix the problem instead of covering it up.

Was reading your post I had the same damn thing happen to me. I change my rotors last week and when I was attempting to get my lug nuts off I broke a damn stud. I bought a new stud and I tried to put it on I just can get it. How did you do it. I took the rotors and calipers off and I took that big bolt out but I just coudent get that metal piece holding the studs in out. Tried everything how did you get yours changed, Also I tried tapping the old one out but it ain't happening it's hitting and even if I could the new one woudent be able to go in.(I need to fix mine been riding on 2 studs on the one tire for a week now)

With the caliper and rotor off, bang the holy hell out of the broken stud with a big hammer and it will pop out the back. After that you can either take the hub apart, or go the jimmy rigged way I went :). I used a dremel tool to cut off some of the new stud's head and bang it back into the hub from behind.

Well I tried that I beat the shit out of that stud but it just wont come out because the rear is hitting the back. I am guessing I have to take the hub out, I tried, I took that big bolt out and tried to prye that damn hub off but it just won't. I can't do it the way you did, I can't even get the old stud out from behind the hub. Let me know if you got some more advice.

Do you have a dremel tool? I would just cut off the part of the stud's head that's in your way somehow.. I'm not sure how to take it all apart.

Yeah I do have a dremel and could cut the back of the old stud off. But that still doesent solve my problem. How am I going to get the new stud in (can't cut the back of that one) hopefelly somoene can help me out.

No man, I meant like this so you can slide it in/out at an angle.

If you've cross threaded the stud/nut at some point, it would cause this problem, and the breaking off too... always make sure to put your lug nuts on finger tight before hitting them with the impact wrench.

i found it i found it i think its in the body kit section of the honda forum under the thread what color should i paint my civic

Re: What color should i paint my civic????? (Post #13)
Ricochet, you are an ass of the highest order, who likes to bully the kids in the Civic DX who worship your car, because of the motor you have in it.

I'm not letting a valid thread, with a valid question, get locked, because you happen to disagree with how the kid is spending his money, so I have deleted all your posts in this thread, and all quotes of it.

I see your Royal Assness posting vile crap like this again, as opposed to actually giving advice, as I happen to agree with your assessment, just not the way you're going about it, I will ban you.

He was banned for going off on the moderator that TEMPORARILY banned him in the first place. Due to the outburst and the way he presented himself with it, he was banned permenantly. He had his chance, as he has had in the past as well. That is all you need to know. We do not have to report the members who favored someone who was banned just because said person was banned. Ricochet is no longer a member here. End of story.
