1996 2.2 178k, new water pump, thermostat
well, i got exgaust gasses in my coolant resevior, and white smoke out the rear.. time for flush head gasket replace and fill! am i right? :screwy: so, i was just wondering if any of you guys who have done this had any advice to me to help guide me into doing this correctly the first time, instead of the third time like bighead (who deserves to do all that work just because he got a free cavy!!) JOKE dont hate! :lol2: Oh, btw, water pump bearing gave out causing overheating and just replaced it to start it up with symptoms previously described

Yes, done this one many times. Takes about 4 hours including cleanup. Biggest tip-Remove the head with the intake still installed. It is pretty difficult to get off/on the head when then head is installed.
Also while you have the head off it is a good time to replace the oil sending unit and crank position sensor. Cheap and easy to change with the intake out of the way, almost impossible with the intake in the way. If you have the cash and are the nervous type you can also replace the coilpaks. Good Luck.

make sure the bolt holes are dry and you use a thread sealant...

P.s. the FREE Cav works great...put a superman sticker on the trunk lid...I feel like I can fly .....
