Problem Shifting from 4H to 2H

I recently purchased a 2004 Wrangler for towing behind my motorhome. After towing with the crank case in neutral, I can move into 4H but not back into 2H. Anyone have any suggestions?

Did you leave the tranny in neutral as well? Will the shifter just not physically go into 2 hi, or what?

Thanks for response. I can not get into 2Hi. I tried moving the transmission into various gears -- including reverse.

Are you doing it while the Jeep is sitting still? A little forward motion will be helpful. Just get it moving (in a straight line to avoid binding) in 4HI, then shift to 2HI.

And remember when towing, both transfer case and transmission should be in neutral.
