my 96 rs eclipse is stock at the moment and i plan on making it at least alittle faster. i planned on starting out with a cold air intake, but when i looked at them of the internet, i noticed they sell a "cold air intake" and a "short ram intake" can anyone tell me what the difference in these two products and which is more effective?

Cold air takes in colder air while short ram pretty much just opens your limit with the airbox (takes in a bit more air).
Dont expect to gain anything, like 2 hp at max. Hardly even feel the difference. I would get a Short Ram just for the sound really.....

one more question to add to this thread... when i change the intake, what is the little 3-4 inch tube that connects to the tube to the airbox? it just has a clamp that is removed with vise grips.

Buy an intake that is 2 pieces. So you can use it as a CAI and a short ram, whatever you like better.

CAI and short ram are different. since none has explained the difference i will. CAI usually goes down into the front of the wheelwell. a short ram stays in the stock airbox location. cai will get slightly cooler air but will get dirty faster and can suck up water

I would go with a CAI but, if you really looking to waste money on your car I suggest you sell it and get yourself a GST or GSX
