Antenna Replacement

I broke off my factory antenna, so there are no threads left. I would like to replace it, but wonder if anyone has any input they can provide to help me do this. I do very little work on cars/trucks. There is a cable attached to the antenna, which I assume attaches somewhere to the radio, I am hoping I do not need to pull the radio to detach this cable? Any tips, input would be appreciated.

Another question, while we are on the subject. Is there an option on these trucks for a power antenna? Has anyone ever put an aftermarket power antenna on these trucks? Lastly could a power antenna even fit in the stock location?

I really hate getting out of the truck to take the antenna off before getting the truck washed. Not to mention, there are alot of little jerk offs that like to break shit like that around here. :cya:

No, you shouldn't have to take the radio out. If you can get the threaded part that broke off out from inside the holder, you will just be able to replace the mast. Try to use a very small flat head crewdriver or some kind of pick to get hte threaded part out. Once thats out just go to a dealership or someplace online and purchase a replacement mast. i can't imagine those things being any more than 20-25 dollars. Good luck.

The problem is, the male piece (threads) are broken off from the piece which is mounted to the truck, the mast itself is still good, but there is nothing left to thread it to. I have yet to trace where the cable goes, I was hoping someone would tell me where it went to before I got this thing up on a rack.

You'll be greatly enlightened by removing the fender well panel behind (aft of) the tire. Doing that should allow you to see everything under there.

I don't mean to hijack this thread from sapasson but nineball has an interesting question . . . can you put a powered antenna on these trucks? I want to do this becasue of going to the car wash and because my antenna is too long for me to drive into the garage with. (height restriction)

Ditto on any power antenna info. Without distracting from sasasson's original questions.

just a suggestion..
they make an antanna kit for vehicles that allows you to take the factory antanna off the vehicle and use one mounted in the fron window instead very small and clean look if seen.. check it out.. as for power antannas i dont know.. seems like something else that could go wrong.. but i like the look of no antanna..

The cable plugs directly into the back of the radio. It is not difficult to get to. Simply grab the bezel around the outside of the radio and pull it off. It'll be hard at first, but once you get it started, it'll pop right out. Then it is just a matter of unbolting the radio unit and sliding it out. It isn't difficult, had to go through a lot more than just that installing my XM radio!

However, I do not know if the cable is permanantly connected to the threads of the antenna mast, if you can just pull it off, you're in luck.. if not.. well, it'll be a fun project!
