ok so im thinking about lowering my car. there is a bunch of coilovers on ebay, im vary tempted but they are so cheap and i know for the most part you get what you pay for... well im thinking about taking the chance cuz they are only going to come out to like 100 bux, not really a big deal but still $100.00. the Q... who on here has "cheap" ebay coilovers and how do they ride, how much did you pay for them and what brand (make)?
thanks, Rob

The only worry is how long will the springs last before they sag. Or worse break.

One issue is that if they are not DOT approved you could possably get a ticket by a real jerk cop or inspection station (some states check cars for safety every year).

I’m not sure if I would really trust some of those alloy perches they come with too. They look kinda light weight and figure that they have to hold up the car under force and all...

It would really suck big time if you were rally racing in some corner really hot and have a spring collapse, total sudden loss of control is not a good thought.

I got my used eibach prokits for $88 shipped on ebay. Great shape, lifetime warranty and all.

Besides IMHO coilsovers are a useless unless you are road racing and want to adjust for different tracks and for driving around. The issue is that every time you adjust you have to get an alignment due to geometry changes. And it is a real pain to get the hight right everytime, I know I had some Carrea coilover shocks (race car stuff) and it took like an hour everytime we changed the setup. Then hours to dial them in everytime.

Just my .02

Spend the moeny and do it right, price reflects quality when it comes to suspension. Those cheap coilovers have generic spring rates, ususally too high, and low quality materials. Most common problem I see is the actual threaded sleeve cracking or adjuster ring seizing to the threads. Not to mention stock struts will wear out very quickly. Stock struts can not control lowering springs correctly.

The only good sleeve producer is Ground Control using Eibach springs. I highly suggest using Koni sports with them any other aftermarket strut(KYB, Tokico) is not intended for more than 1.5" drop of ajustable ride height. By that time you can afford a true set of coilovers like Tein or H&R.

If your looking to save some money go with H&R sports and possibly KYB AGX or Tokico Illumina struts.

A well performing suspension is not cheap but is the best bang for the buck when it comes to performance mod's.

my cousin has dropzones on his hatch; the passenger side sagged already after about 3 months. the ride wasnt bad though..

My Arospeeds are still strong after 2.5 years. I got a 2" drop in rear and 2.25" drop up front with stock Si struts and no camber kit. My tires wear perfect. I don't hardly change the set up cuz I really like it right now but if you change your rim size or race often you may want coilovers. As for the ride, pretty stiff and not bouncy. I do bottom out occasionally up front though so I may just replace the struts. If I had more money in my car I'd get the Eibach set-up. You have to think about the whole theme of the car and what is practical.

why not just do it right the first time?

turtlecrxsi your car looks as if it's only dropped 1.5" but anyways 2"+ drop is eating your tires up. For every 1" dropped camber changes about -0.5 degree. Being 1 or more off causes an unstable, unpredictable, & poor performance. But what do I know I only do this shit every day.

if ur strapped for cash...do the struts first...you can have a cheap set of springs but a good set of struuts will balance it out

if you want the best...just save up for the tein ss syspension...$1000 and you probably won't regret it...i wish i had the money for it when AF had a group buy with 20% off

My car doesn't look as low cuz it's on uneven grass but it's pretty low. I know I have negative camber, but my tires are pretty new so they're not so bad. By the time I need new tires again, I plan on doing the struts with camber kit, etc. I don't really think I'm worried about eating up some $38 tires... I'm just saying it doesn't hurt to be on a budget with this stuff especially when your car is 15 years old.

ok they are on the car for now it is a 2 inch drop, arospeed. they feel good not bouncy, snot too stiff but harder than stock. by the time the shocks blow ill probably have a camber kit and new shocks ready to go in.
the install was easy, maybe took me 1 and a half hrs. the only "fun" part was getting the stock springs off the strut. (2 wheels trick lol)

im very interested in the skunk2 or ground control coil-0vers, but are very expensive...plus you have to get the camber kit and shocks. very nice tho.

Like I said good suspension aint cheap. Instead of going with seperate adjustable springs and struts get real coilovers. Spring/shock in packaged designed to work together.

Proper setup with adjustable height springs is something overlooked or even unknown. With slight adjustments you can move pounds around so the whole car is equal or however the driver prefers(60/40 40/60, etc.) Every time you change the height corner weighting should be done & an algniment is needed. That's why I say coilovers are overkill for street use.

pics will come soon, i have to get a new camera.
i had to take the front mud flaps off, they would have been ripped off cuz they were like maybe 2" off the ground. good news is i haven’t bottomed out yet
im going to get the alignment today (i hope). i know my camber is going to be off so im working on getting a kit now.

don't get an allignment yet!!! you'll need another after you put the camber kit in.

man, i love mudflaps on a freshly lowered car. i have yet to grind "honda" completly off. i came close in the STD hatch :evilol:

here's what you do. you find people standing on the corner waiting for a bus or something. then you hit the corner just hard enough to scrape the flap. it scares the poopies out of people. here is another fun one. i was lucky enough that they were doing road construction on the highway. it was almost finished. there were still the temp. lane markers....those little reflector flaps that stick up. hit those with your mud flaps at like 40mph. that'll get the attention of the car next to you as well :naughty:

if ur building a nice ride and want coilovers...then reread this

most people don't know that every time you adjust ur height ur SUPPOSED to get an alignment...but that's why itz better IMO...but not cheaper to get a real coilover set and not sleeved adjustable springs...

sleeved adjustable springs:

Well I Like That DRoped Look, And If I Ever Get Enough To Afford Teins, Then I Would But For Now Ill Try To Save Up For Skunk 2's Or At Least Matrix + A Camber Kit (of Corse).

Well I Like That DRoped Look

If all your after is the look buy some lowering springs & good struts. You'll be much happier in the long run. Shit H&R springs are only $50 more than those low grade things your talking about.

speaking of reflectors in the road.. back in high school we got the bright idea to weld a shovel to the bumper of a buddys truck so we could drive down the road and plow up all the reflectors, it worked great, if you hit them just right they would fly up and land in the bed, well let me rephrase, it worked great untill you tried to slow down or hit a small bumper or something, anything that caused the front end to move more than like 1/8" because then the shovel would dig into the highway... we ened up having to cut the bumper off with a torch becuase it was so messed up. Man I'm suprised we didnt get arrested more offen now that I look back on it.

Looks good. An easy trick to avoid bottoming out over speed bumps is to take them on an angle...
