Does it run rough when it is running?

When it dies, have you checked for spark at the end of each spark plug wire?

once it dies and won't start, check to see if you are getting spark.

Sounds like the ignition module heating up and going dead. I would check t hat at least first off, then work my way around to a coil.

again, try replacing the ignition module
It may be heating up and going bad

ok well it will start on starting fluid so it must be a fuel issue

did you replace the nut kit when you replaced the CPI unit?

Did you check fuel pressure after it died?

Have seen this problem on other '93's including my own. For some reason, the socket on the fuel pump relay becomes intermittent, metal fatigue in the connectors. GM sells, whoda quessed, an upgraded socket with heat shrink connectors.

When it dies, and you turn the ignition off and then back on, do you hear the pump prime? Have you tried to put 12V to the test wire next to the pump relay and the pump runs? If you answered no on 1 and yes on 2, look to the relay.

yes it holds fuel preasure, and the pump is primeing

If you have spark when it dies, the fuel pump is priming, it will start and die with a shot of ether, then your right, you have fuel issues.

The only other option is:

1. Defective CPI unit
2. Wiring issues to the CPI
3. ECM problems

What's you're pressure at the shradervalve?

On second thought, Ditto to rlith.

Original poster - your not just popping the schrader and assuming you have the proper pressure, are you?

fuel pressure is 58 constant running or after it dies

hmmm, should be 61-64 while running......I've seen worse though. When it's running how does the oil pressure look?

thunder-phantom

oil pressure good 40 + always

No, not on a CPI. Even 45-50psi will have the truck not starting.

The poppets require at least 55 psi to open properly.

On a 1993 Vin W, the pressure should be 55-61 psi with the key on and the engine off.

Check engine coolant temp sensor. I heard that this is very common for the "engine dies when warm" condition, but I have no personal experience with the problem. Cheap & easy to try.

Nah, throwing random parts at a truck is not a good idea.

THis sounds familer. Did you check the plugs to see if flooded? Have you pulled off the plenum to see if it is flooded up there again? Where did you get your cpi unit?
