Yes, it should work but I dont know if the gains are worth the effort.

The DX stuff is set up only for two injectors in kinda glorified carb plenum setup. It may not supply the mixture properly.

You will have to at least rewire for MPFI and get SI dizzy and ecu and controller to really get the VTEC to work properly. If you do that you might as well just change to obd1 and running it properly with the right dizzy and ecu.

i know that you are doing this swap because its a vtec engine, but considering that its the weakest vtec engine around, and it takes a lot more wiring to put in than most swaps, i wouldnt bother.

id try to find a b18a because its got more torque and is a tougher engine, or get a d16z6 because the wiring isnt as difficult.

as far as putting DPFI on any other d-series engine, forget it. you arent gonna be happy with the power output, and unless you just wanna show off a VTEC valve cover, its pretty useless. if you wanted to show off a valve cover, you could just put the VTEC cover on your stock engine.

Hmmm...Lets first translate that paragraph!

OK i own a 1998 DX and i am in the process of swapping a d16y5 engine. I would like to know if the HX engine(vtec-e) will be interchangable with my old distributor and manifold. Also will my old ecu and wiring harness work with a vtec controller?

Ahh okay better. Well to answer you questions. Im assuming you arent going to convert to MPFI, which is why you want your stock manifold. Well in either case the distributor and intake manifold will bolt up fine. But unless you have MPFI the swap theoretically IS NOT worth it. The stock harness bolts and clips on fine as well as the ecu will work fine also.

Id reccomend getting a d16z6 or a d16y8. Mainly because they dont cost more and this y5 engine is 115hp. Or you could go like incucivic said get a B18a swap. They dont cost much more. All you will need is a mount kit and a new ecu. Plus convert to MPFI. It will require a tad more effort but will pay off by at least 3 folds in the end!
