gap between gas tank and shell

hey has anyone here removed thier gas tank and got an idea of how much of a gap there is between the shell and the tank. im fabricating a battery "shelf" on my back passager seat and dont want to start drilling holes becaue i might run into the gas tank.

anybody..???
