Stalling 1999

OK Here I go.
I Have a 1999 contour, My BABY. Today it stalled and now I have a smell and the engine light is on. I checked my fluids and all seem ok. I have about 92000 mile on it. But it is not running.
I can start it but then it stalls after a block or so. I cannot even get it to the shop. When I try to drive it it almost seems to not be getting fuel I can push the gas all the way to the floor but it does not rev the engine. Then it stalls whenturning corners. The car is not shifting but could that be because the car is not getting enough juice to bring up the rpms to shift? I can work on cars but I need help. This is my only car and witrh out it I am sunk.

V6 or I4? What kind of smell is it making?
