I'm an auto ignorant  middle-aged woman who has a few questions and would appreciate your help. My check engine light has been on and so my 1998 Blazer failed New Jersey inspection for the following two codes:
P0410(Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction) and
P1415(Secondary Air Injection(AIR) System Bank 1 (GM))

I called the dealer where I bought it in 2000 and will be bringing it in for diagnostics. Cost of diagnostic is $82 which is deducted if work is done there to fix problem. Was told it could be a sensor which would run about $300. Asked him about warranty coverage and he said that it would only cover catalytic converter.

1. Do the costs I'm being told so far sound reasonable for diagnostics and/or a sensor?

I have now found my warranty papers. My VIN from www.autopartners.com (http://www.autopartners.com) show that 96/80 PCM/CC EMISSIONS would still be covered until 11/2/06 or 80010 miles.(car currently has 75,100miles)

2. What exactly are PCM/CC EMISSIONS and what parts would that effect? How do I know what parts exactly would still be covered under warranty? I'd hate to pay for something that should be covered.

I REALLY appreciate any input. Thanks... J

That is part of the emmisions system and they do have to cover it if memory serves me correctly.

Contact the information number on the warranty papers and get their thoughts on the matter.

Hello J

The shop where I work charges $75 or 1 hr computor time. If the repair is done it only will cost $65/hr since most times the diagnostic part can be the most time consuming. The $82 dollars doesn't sound out of line but when they say it is deducted, well, I believe they are adding it first and then subtracting. As the Science Fiction writer, Robert Heinlen said, "TANSTAAFL" (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch).

What Blazer LT said is correct. The Secondary Air System is most definately part of the emissions.

Is your warranty with GM or an aftermarket one?

Irregardless, go to a GM dealer and ask a few questions.
