I own a 1992 Toyota 4runner with 140K. I took my truck off road the other day and it started acting up when i punched the gas. When i stomp on the gas my truck shuts off. Usually it would kick back on if id let off the throttle, but this time it stayed shut off. Now it wont start, it will turn over but not run. It is getting spark, fuel, and air. Something else is wrong and i cant figure out what is wrong. If anyone could help out with this it would help a great deal.

Check ground connections. Have your engine scoped and see if the spark looks normal and strong. Maybe your coil or distributor is not doing their job. Check to see if your injectors are clicking when you try and start it. They should be.

What motor is this???It takes spark(at the right time) fuel, air and compression..if you have all these and it will not start..you have missed having one...do you have spark at the plug...does the engine turn over faster than normal???Have you tried pulling off a vacum line on intake and spraying a small amount of carb cleaner out of a spraycan(if fuel is the problem this will fire it off for a few seconds)

If you were 4 wheelin and it was wet..you may have gotten water in your connectors to sensors(airflow meter, throttle postioning sensor, coil ect.ect.ect..

Do you have moisture in your dist.cap...if such is the case just remove cap from dist(leave wires on) and blow dry out (the inside of cap and top of dist.))with a hair dryer..reinstall and get your splash guards back on...goodluck

My engine is the 3.0 V6 3FVE. I had already checked the inside of the distributor cap and everywhere else, my truck sits to high to get water in those things. plus i had already checked these things. And its not just my engine that cuts out its everything electrical that cuts out inside the truck and out. But then cuts back on, but this time it did not. I wasnt able to put the cable on the negetive side of the battery for a while, it would spark and my dash lights stayed on even when the battery wasnt plugged. This is really odd and appreciate if i could get some help. Jeremiah

When you have a shorted wire problem you can alot of times unplug all fuses (after drawing yourself a picture with value and location of each fuse) and connect battery back up and see if it sparks(make sure key is ALL the way out of ignition, all lights are turned off and all doors are closed)You can use a test light inbetween post of battery and cable end...once connected just touch cable to post to reset relays while testlight is hooked up still inline....then plug fuses back in one at a time...when you plug in a fuse that causes the light to go bright then your problem is on that curcuit(did you touch the cable to post again to see if relay reset?got door open?)

Hey is battery hooked up backwards?Do lights stay on when battery is hooked up even though the switch is off?
