1999 Silhouette Transmission Problems

I have a 1999 Olds Silhouette that shifts hard occaisionally and then the check engine light illuminates. When checking the computer codes it gives a P0742 (torque converter clutch circuit stuck on) and P1811 (max adapter & long shift). Both of these points to the TCC/PWM solenoid. Do you think this is the problem or could it be something else? Do you have to pull the transmission to replace this?

You don't have to pull the transmission, but its not an easy job. You have to remove the driver side tire and support the motor, as the engine cradle has to be lowered. Once this is done, the solenoid is beneath the side cover which should now be in view (after lowering the motor/transmission). Its just a few bolts and done, but the process to get to that point isn't for your saturday garage mechanic, prepare to get dirty and shout obscenities :o)
Oh yah, Haynes manual has NOTHING in it for maintenance on transmission. Get a shop manual off of ebay and I bet this procedure is explained in greater detail. You also have to have someone (probably a tranny shop) with a scanner reset the TAP codes after replacing the solenoid. This repair will cost you 5-600 bucks at a shop, while the part itself is less than 75 dollars.
