Bose Upgrades?

Hello. I just joined due to postings about Bose. I have a 2000 GTP with the Bose system. I, too, want more control over the sound quality without disrupting the Bose circuitry. Does anyone know what would happen if I installed an aftermarket equalizer in the armrest? Would I still keep the Bose circuitry but get the control I want? My other idea was to get a Monsoon HU or a different HU with an equalizer. But my understanding is that I'll lose the Bose circuitry. Or should I just start replacing everything little by little.
I like the way it sounds right now, but on the highway, I do wish it was louder...and more bass at high levels would be nice too. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ted from the Chicago area.

if you want better sound quality go with a new head unit. dont cheap out either. as for the boss wiring you can buy a harness that connects to the clip that goes into the back of your factory hu. this tells you what wires connect to where on your new head unit.
