External WG Question

Ok, I'll be purchasing a 14b pretty soon (thanks to joemathews :) ), and I'm planning on going external right from the start because I'll be going much bigger on the turbo down the road. I've decided I want to go external off the o2 housing dumped to the atmosphere (yes I know about the sound), but I'm kinda confused on how it's setup. I've been looking into o2 housings setup for external gates from Punishment Racing, but I'm baffled as to how they work with external gates! Here's a pic...

That's the o2 housing they have for external gates.
This next one is from Victory Performance, and this is how I've always thought the o2 external looked like...

If you notice, the Punishment Racing o2 has a "blockoff" plate for where the old internal gate passage was. I also don't see any additions flanges for where the external gate is supposed to be mounted  . Can anyone enlighten me as to how the hell the PR o2 is supposed to work with external gates?

it might be made to mount your on external on. it just gives you a flat space to mount it to

You have two options for external.
1. Wastegate mounted on exhaust manifold. Either venting off #1 runner or venting all 4 runners, all 4 is better and more expensive. The internal wastegate part of the o2 housing will be blocked off like your first picture.
2. Wastegate mounted on o2 housing. The turbo's internal wastegate flapper will be gone, and the external wastegate will be mounted like your 2nd picture.

I assume venting all 4 runners via manifold requires getting a new manifold, right? Is there any way possible to have my 2g manifold flanged to vent all 4 instead of just the #1?

Yes, Kevin had a shop do it to his. they weld a tube right to the middle of the manifold to vent all 4 runners.
Are you sure you want to go external on a 14b? I'd save the money until you need it.

Yea, I'm having a hard time deciding which route to go. Internal will always be cheapest, and external is kind of overkill for a 14b. So far it's been back and forth on whether I want to keep internal or spend the money for external. Right now, I think a good port job around the wastegate area on the turbine housing would suffice for a 14b. However, I may end up going external down the road when I get a larger turbo ("50 trim", Green, etc).
On a better note, I'll be sending my ecu to dsmlink either next weekend or the one after :) . Christmas time rocks ;)

DSMlink, eh? That's exciting :)! If I were you, I would save the money and not get an external wastegate right now. The one on the 14b is free, and all you have to do is not let the turbo creep too much. Have you decided what turbo you're going to go with eventually? What size injectors?

I'm looking into turbos about the size of the FP Green. I'd absolutely LOVE to get the Green, but ironically it's the green that's keeping me from buying it :) . Something along the lines of an AGP RS49 or some other hybrid bolt-on "50 trim". Basically, anything that flows 48-50 lbs/min is what I'm aiming for ;) . Since I'll have DSMlink to compensate for large injectors easily, I'll probably go with 720's. Until then, it's the 14b on a stock rewired pump and stock injectors  .
P.S. I have an Injen intake pipe w/ filter for sale if anyone is interested! PM me if you need pics, ect.
