No speedometer cable. Uses new VSS that plugs into transmission. How do I check what's wrong? VSS? Wire to Cluster? Connection into the cluster? Thx

Not sure if it will work but disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and reconnect. Sometimes the Modules get brain freeze and this resets them. I believe the General Control Module(GCM) controls the dash. Hope it works.

Hello!
I'm new here because I'm searching for a fix for the same problem. Were you able to determine why your speedometer works only intermittently? I've suddenly started experiencing the same thing. My speedometer works for a few days then suddenly dies. After a while, it'll start working again.
Mine has a 5.0 liter engine and automatic.
Please let me know if you've found what causes this.
Thanks!

The speedo in my wifes explorer did the same thing. Her's is a 98 AWD. The plastic circuit board on the back of the dash seperates and does not make connection. I pulled it apart and added jumper wires from the connector to the speedo and have not had a problem since
