My dealer has an X5 4.8is Black/Black w/ everything, I contemplating buying it and I was wondering if anyone with an '02/'03/'04 4.6is has had many (if any) problems.

The only issue i have run into at just over 50k is I had a faulty door a lock (which is common I’m told), and while under warranty BMW replaced an oil temp sensor. Besides that it’s a fabulous vehicle.

Great to see that you’re looking at a fine and respectable car. I recently had the same dilemma too. My BM dealer also had a 3.0 diesel. I ended up purchasing the diesel as it goes like a rocket and costs hardly anything to run. I'm nearly getting 10.2Litres/100Kms. (Nearly 30MPG)

My friendly dealer lent me an X5 4.4 for a week. She drank double the fuel.

I think I've made the right choice getting the diesel. Especially with the high fuel prices we have in Aus. I only have to visit the gas station twice a month opposed to 4 or 5 times.

Good luck with your purchase.

other than the transmission issue I previously posted here, my 4.8 is a fantastic vehicle. I came out of an M3 and this x5 would run right with it-and do it much smoother with much more refinement. I couldn't be happier. Now if I could just figure out this crazy transmission...
