I just picked up a new '05 Civic EX SE and I'm thinking of upgrading to some 17" wheels. What I can't decide on is the kind of tires. I think I've narrowed it down to either the Continental ContiExtremeContact or the Yokohama Avid H4S. Is one of these tires clearly better than the other? Or, is there another tire that I should be considering, instead. I want decent grip, but treadlife is also important. Let me know. BTW, the size I need is either 205/45/17 or 215/45/17 and I'd like to keep the price to about $100 per tire or less. Thanks.

I know that the Sentra Spec Vs come with Continental ContiSportContact tires and they are absolutely horrid. Horrible wet traction and doesn't perform that well on dry pavement either.
If I were you I would go with Yoko AVS ES100 tires. Not the greatest tire in the world, but it gets the job done and aren't too expensive.

I just put some contiextremes on a customers '03 maxima, took a quick test drive in the snow. They seemed pretty good but it's hard to judge in the snow. They do have a nice tread pattern and nice stiff sidewalls.

Well the big question is what are you going to use them for? Snow? Rain? Never rains and never snows?

my experience with Continental is long tread life, but crappy performance. Go with the Yokos but be ready to accept some possibly loud tires. what i mean is as they start to wear they may become loud when you drive.
