i dont think that they will bolt up,you will need a tranny from a 2.4,or maybe 2.3 will work also, but not sure...

Yes it is possible.... but you have to rebuild the entire tranny ... if your mechanically inclined you best not even bother.. stick with what you have... and make sure to keep same make....there are izusu and getrag trannys....

just a ?,but ,if they bolt-up why do you have to rebuid? do the bolt holes line up?or is it a spline fitment problem?

on the 2.2 OHV motor. The 3pd autos and 4spd autos physically WILL bolt to the 2.4 . I have been there and done that BUT! THOUGH they physically bolt together... the starter positions are different.... the 2.4 uses a starter mounted higher up on the bellhousing where the 2.2 trans. uses a lower mounted starter on the bell housings. So this is the major reason why they dont really work unless modifications are made...

2.2 will NOT, in ANY WAY bolt up to a 2.4 or 2.3 transmission, the bell housing is different, they cannot be interchanged, even with rebuilding. End of story, to those who say it is possible, I must question whether you've even seen one in person. The Twin-Cam and Quad 4 use a special bolt pattern not shared by any other engine/tranny combo that GM has ever made. This i assure you of, as I only work on 2.3's and 2.4's I can not say what tranny will actually mate to a 2.2, but I know for a fact its neither of those trannies, although a 2.3 to 2.4 is do-able. If i remember correctly the 2.2 shared a bellhousing similar to the 2.8 V6 engine, which i believe might have been an HM282 auto tranny.

Didn't he say that the 2.4 doesn't share it's bolt pattern with any other tranny?

The ONLY trans that can be used with the 2.3 & 2.4 are the Getrag Muncie used in the 89-94 2.3 Quad 4's and the 95-99 Isuzu trans used with the 2.4 Twin-cams and the 00-02 Getrag trans used with the Twin-cams.
To make this simple if the trans didn't come off a 2.3 or a 2.4 it wont work with either. Also if you use a trans that wasnt originally for the engine, such as a 2.3 trans on a 2.4 engine & vise-versa, you must use a flywheel and clutch that were designed for the trans.

im pretty sure if you read what he wrote, the he was asking if the transmission off of his 2.2 motor will bolt onto a 2.4 motor, not the other way around... either way wont work but still
